Chapter 67 – The Trappings of Sucess
Babe if you pack your suit in that bag it will get wrinkled is all Im saying. Tina was pleading with Bette to take the bigger suit pack.
Yeah your right its just I wanted to take the little suitcase. Were only going for a few days. You think I could get by with just a few things. Bette complained back.
You probably could if you didnt have to pack dress-up and casual in the same bag.
I know I just wanted to take the smaller bag. Bette gripes as she goes to the closet. Pulling out her larger suite pack she spreads it out on the bed. She hasnt used this in quite a while, another lifetime. As Bette unzips the pack, inside is a card from the W Hotel. It was one of those questionnaire/VIP we love you kind of cards that are designed to let you know youre a valued customer and if you have any problems or have forgotten any items we would like to be of service to you signed by some hotel manager. Somehow it must have gotten dropped in her suite pack the last business trip she had taken for the CAC. Bette picked up the card and just stood there starring at it.
Deep down Bette just didnt feel comfortable with this trip. It was too close to her previous life. In her head she knew the differences. It wasnt her show to put on, she wasnt responsible for all the people attending and making sure all the details were perfect. While her head knew all these things, Bette found herself getting caught up in the emotions and excitement of the show. She was trying to turn away from these feeling but they keep drawing her back. Bette had actually picked the New York show before the LA show hoping the physical distance would translate to actual mental distance for her. With her and Tina scheduled to leave tonight on the red eye flight, the uneasiness was getting closer and closer. This would be Bettes biggest challenge to her new mindset which she now followed for her life path. Overall Bette didnt want to be anything like the old Bette but when it came to situations like this Bette had to admit the lifestyle was grand.
