Lately: Part 3
"So, tonight, Mr. and Mrs. Fairbanks are having a get together—like a memorial—at their estate. Should I pick you up?" Alice asked as she pulled up to the front door of the Peabody Mansion. Both women, langorously, stepped out of the car. The sadness created a heavy load that rested on their shoulders. They were already tired of carrying it. Alice popped the trunk and helped Helena out with her bags. Helena would’ve called the butler, but she knew Alice would have a fit. Alice wasn’t like most rich girls, she never took for granted what she had and was always the first to get her hands in the dirt.
"No. I’ll ride with my mother."
"It starts at seven." Helena looked at her watch and noticed that it was already two and she needed a nap.
"Okay. Thanks, Alice, for coming to get me."
"It’s okay."
"I wish it wasn’t under these circumstances."
"Me either, Hel’. Tell Ms. Peabody I said hello." Helena nodded and watched Alice drive away. She turned around and called for the butler, Geoffrey, to get her things and take them to the guest room. She then went searching for her mother.
She could hear the noise of a television show from the hallway. It was coming from the study. The distinct voices of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz mixed with the shrieking laughter of Peggy Peabody made Helena grit her teeth. The noises echoed through this old house.
"Mother!" Helena called from the doorway, "Must you yelp like that when you laugh?"
Peggy’s smile was mixed with general worry for her daughter’s welfare and her own happiness to see her kid.
"Helena, my dear. Come to me." Peggy held out her lean arms to Helena and she welcomed it. She placed herself on her mother’s lap and felt the tight squeeze of her mothers arms around her.
They didn’t have the best relationship in the world. She often thought that her mother was trying to ruin her, which was what Peggy would call tough love. At the same time though, Peggy had always been there for her daughter when it mattered. When she came out, Peggy was the most accepting out of all of her other friends’ parents. Helena let the tears fall as her mother cradled her.

No! I still feel sorry for Tina! Because YOU are writing her like that! She can’t do anything about it, it’s not her, it’s Ash! :P Just kidding, babe. I love the history, the emotion, the interaction.. :) Thanks for posting! AngelDana; proud defender of Tina Kennard ;)
wow weird bette loving helena i kinda like the twist……so sad about dana wish they wouldnt have killed her off the show she is an amazing actress… well thanks for sharing pps
This chapter is really sad. Helena feels miserable, Bette feels miserable, Alice is miserable… Al is right though Bette and Helena should talk and soon. I don’t want Bette to have a kid with that predator of a Tina. Who does something like she did seducing someoe who is obviously grieving but that’s how Tina is a manipulating bitch.PPS
I’m not here to bash Tina and I won’t. But a sure way for her to lose Bette is doing the things she’s doing now. I guess she’s not as sure of Bette’s love as she believed she was. Sometimes it’s hard to know you’re not the one. Great update please post soon!
Okay–I really don’t like Tina in this story which is a good thing. I really hope that things get better with Helena and Bette. They belong to each other–they are right for each other!!! PPS!
Hey there ash, seems I got lucky and had to turn on the pc before I actually left on my vacation,,,,loved the chapter and really dont feel sorry for Tina,,LOL.,,,,seesm she looked for something that was not hers, Bette. once again great chapter.
love the update! i would like to see bette and helena find their way back to each other’s arms…. thanks! pps!
Ooh, your posts are so packed with emotion I love it. However, I DON’T love Tina. I agree with the person that said it seemed Tina was definitely seeking something that wasn’t hers. Now it’s time for her to give it back, whether she wants to or not.
poor tina….is all i can say…
no sadness for tina here…matter of fact, here’s a dime – get a clue…b doesn’t love you!! that rhymed -how cute. anyway, nice to get the history of the angst between b&h, enjoying this fic…PPS.
Ok, so Tina as always loved Bette also. Still need more info. on why she broke up H&B. Tina needs to cool her jets on the baby thing, goodness to bring it up at the memorial ceremony is just tacky. Let get B&H in the same room to talk.
There was something creepy about the way Tina glommed onto Bette after Bette’s breakup with Helena. The image of Peggy P shrieking with laughter at “I Love Lucy” made ME laugh.
WOW!!!! This story just keeps getting better. I do hope that B&H sit down and talk. Alice was so right life is to short. Tina needs to step back a little and give Bette some space. Thanks PPS
