Just The Girl, Stories: Redwind Revisited (Anger Management)

    Six Years Later.

    Manhattan, New York.

I don’t want to sound more arrogant than I already am, but it goes without saying, that people with the same level of fame and prestige that I enjoy don’t have a problem with walking up to old acquaintances and striking up a conversation. Most of the time, the problem lies with people wanting to approach us and not the other way around. When we do cross paths with people from our past, you could only expect them to: 1) walk up to you and say hi, or 2) hide and pretend that they didn’t see you. I must admit, I’ve come across a fair balance of both reactions.

    Take today for example..

During a leisurely stroll around the city after having lunch with my significant other, I come out of yet another high-end dress shop in Manhattan and come across an unforgettable face from my past. She was dining at the restaurant across the street, all alone except for the paperback novel in her hand and a glass of iced tea in the other. Despite the distance, I knew it was her. There was no mistaking it. For a moment, I wondered which reaction I would receive. Will she make the effort to reach out or pretend like I wasn’t there?

    I would know soon enough.

Sensing eyes on her, she tore her eyes from her novel and looked across the street. A look passed between us. It was quick, since she tore her gaze away just as fast, but I knew from that brief connection that like me, she remembered who I was. And of course, what I did to her. I must’ve made quite an impression on her to make her act the way she was doing right now – you know, putting her sunglasses on and covering her face with the book and all. Jeez, I just threw a fit in her office and knocked over a few chairs. It’s not like I broke her precious collection of crystal paperweights on purpose, I just accidentally hit them when I flipped over her desk, that’s all.
