Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty (a HYD-inspired fic)

    CHAPTER FIFTY: Hard Sell

It took the entire amount of time that it had taken Tina to tear open the envelope and read the letter within before what was happening even registered inside Bette’s brain. Try as she might, she couldn’t even react properly to what was happening before her. Bette Porter was caught off-guard, and quite literally, the air left her lungs and rendered her mute. For some strange reason, the letters U, S and C kept swimming before her eyes like she was on the verge of blacking out. Blinking them away did nothing to alleviate her discomfort, the letters were still there, taunting her mercilessly.

Oblivious to her less-than-stellar reaction, Tina sat beside her – too absorbed in the letter to notice anything else. The blonde, like her precious Bette, was totally speechless; though for another reason entirely. With every succeeding word in the letter, Tina’s eyes widened like saucers as an overwhelming desire to cry, laugh, faint and jump fought for dominance inside her body.

“I got in..” Tina whispered breathlessly after a few minutes, the piece of paper falling to her lap as she stared aimlessly at the wall ahead. “I got in.” She repeated, convincing herself that it was real, that she did it – she made the cut. “I got in.” She began giggling to herself like a mad woman, rejoicing her good fortune. “Babe, I got in.” Tina turned to Bette and flung her arms around her sullen girlfriend. It took everything inside Bette to return Tina’s gesture – but try as she might, she just ended up giving the blonde an awkward pat on the back. So much for being the supportive girlfriend.

Barely recognizing the lost look on Bette’s face, Tina grabbed the letter and showed it to her quiet girlfriend. “I got in USC’s highly competitive film production program.” She pointed to the part where a short congratulatory note was written, her face radiating pure bliss and wonderment. “Babe, you’re looking at one of only fifty students accepted each year.” She beamed, completely proud of herself and her achievement. Due to the urging of the senior guidance counselor, she had submitted her credentials and other requirements to USC a few months back, thinking that she only had a one in a million chance of getting accepted into the famous film school. Maybe it was her heartfelt and inspired essay or the fact that she was studying in Redwind Academy that boosted her chances, but whatever the reason, the important thing was that she got in. And what a wonderful feeling it was, she sighed happily.

    1. OMG, I was rolling on the floor with the procrastination/masturbation line. I know we asked for the drama, but this was so insane it seems like they’ll break up. OMG are you going to break them up?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And breathe. Trust in Alchemy, she will find a way. By the way, as Alice’s punishment she should show Dana the photos of her and Shane. JK. Love it all thanks for the post.

    2. The wait for your story is always worth it, Alchemy! The girls should have known that nothing good ever comes as a result of Alice’s cog wheels turning…she probably should have stopped while she was ahead with the “brush for your bush” or perhaps relayed her message on a pair of “Hallmark panties”. Loved Tina’s rant at the end. Look forward to seeing how you solve the cross-country romance dilemma. Have a good week!

    3. As always… I laughed my ass off!!!!!! Bette really does need to lose the “I can walk on water” attitude. she needs to respect Tina’s choices and HOPEFULLY gain some self respect! It may take Tina’s leaving to achieve this(just for a little while) Excellent as always my dear!!! :D PPS

    4. hahahahha Alice with her good ideas. Bette will shave her this time lol. GOD diffcult situation hey. The F4 must be together so do their girlfriends well except Helena.Gret post as usual. Thank you for the number of pages. I just can’t get enough of it. PPS

    5. bette is so smart and so stupid at time… i knew any idea of alice’s would blow up… lets just hope in the morning tina will see things a little better… bette juat wants them together… but she has to learn that money won’t buy her tina… but love will… now please fix this mess… PPS

    6. I think Alice should hide! Bette is more than gonna kill her! Tina is right to be so mad but I think what they really need to do is sit down and talk to each other. That’s what they should have done to begin with…PPS
