CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR, Part Three: When One Is Lost, The Heart Will Find A Way

    Previously..

    Missing.

Bette read that word, and the rest of her short speech left her mind completely.

People thought it was a bad case of stage fright.

    But James knew better.

The moment her arms slackened to her sides, he rushed up the platform and held her steady. Champagne spilled out of the glass, the sound of the mic falling thundered across the hall. Bette Porter, once the picture of arrogance and confidence, was as white as the cold Aspen snow. She felt a cold shiver ripple through her body. And nothing, not even the soothing words from the loyal man was able to warm her.

    Tina was missing.

And she felt the floor disappear beneath her.

    ——————————

    Find me here..

    And speak to me.

    I want to feel you..

    I need to hear you..

    You are the light..

    That’s leading me..

To the place where I find peace again..

    Present.

    She stopped breathing.

She had a pulse, she was undoubtedly alive.

    But..

    She wasn’t moving.

    She had stopped breathing.

Not that she did it on purpose; no, it wasn’t like she wanted to deprive herself of air, take her own life and die. It wasn’t like that. Not at all. Bette Porter, motionless and pale as a ghost, just lost the innate ability to take oxygen into her deprived lungs. She lost the ability to breathe. She lost it, just like that. With her assistant’s unexpected and utterly devastating revelation, all the air got knocked out from her body – leaving it as quickly as the breath she unwittingly expelled from her lips when the knowledge that her love, her life, was missing began to seep inside her shocked mind. She felt this sinking feeling in her stomach – and anxiety gripped at her senses, making it even harder to do something as easy and integral as breathing; heck, even blinking. She was drowning in an ocean of denial, and it is for this reason that she stood immobilized and frozen, unable to see past the fog that had begun to envelop her every being.

    1. They continually find each other through thick and thin, the truth has spoken through their hearts. They will always be The Bette and Tina shipper crew.

    2. Remaining two more chapters Alchemy? This alone is a major tearjerker. Exceptional update as usual. Had a silly grin at the “taguan” moment. Don’t be gone to long eh:)
