Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Fifteen and a Half (based loosely on HYD: Returns)
“It’s been three years..” She whispered as she knelt down in front of the marble niche and gently cleaned his epitaph with a damp cloth. “..everybody’s been telling me to move on, but I don’t know babe, is it really time to let you go?” She continued, using her fingers to trace his name and the cross that was carved above it. “Do you think I can even do it?” She asked in a small, sad voice.
Her green eyes filled with tears – tears that continued to amaze her for their ability to form despite crying her eyes dry a hundred times before – and as she closed her lids, she let a few drops fall and streak down her reddened cheeks. “I finished another painting the other day,” She sniffled, wiping her face with the back of her hand. “I think you would’ve liked it. Marcus says its one of my best – if not the best. I know he,” She paused and smiled, picturing her best friend and closest confidant in her mind. “He has the tendency of overrating my work to make me feel good, but I think I believe him this time. He asked for it, you know. He wanted to display it inside his office – and I think that says a lot. I still can’t believe he’s replacing his precious Kiki Smith print with a Jill Walker original. It’s crazy, right?” She chuckled amidst tears, wiping stray droplets away with every sad smile. That was another sign that she still hadn’t let go. Though her dad’s people had reverted all her official documents back to Jillian Grisham – she still signed her work under her married name.
Three years had gone by – yet here she was, still stuck in the same place with regards to her emotions; everyone had moved on from the tragedy, but as the widow of the suicidal man, her heart refused to heal – at least not completely; but just enough for her to leave the bed and face the world every day. She was no longer in the same depressive hole she was in during her time at the facility, but in all respects, not really the same woman as she was before she entered it either. She could still remember the dark days that followed after Eric’s death. The anguish, the pain, the disbelief, the horror. And people surrounding her then did not help her out in any way either. During the time when she could barely utter a few coherent words let alone think and feel anything but emptiness, she could only stare mindlessly at the people around her as they shuffled her back and forth; asking her opinion on things that needed to be decided upon, that as his wife she should have a say in. But how could she, when words continue to fail her? Should we bury him? How about cremation? Do you think he would’ve wanted a small service or a big farewell? The mortician did all he could with the body, but they still think we should have a closed casket during the wake, do you want that? Eric’s blue tie or black one? Do you want to keep his wedding ring or would you like him to wear it? What picture should we use of him? If we cremate Eric, where would we spread his ashes? She could only shrug and give a blank stare at the people badgering her for answers, before her eyes would fill up again and she’d continue sobbing.

Perfect timing, that classes has been suspended in my part of town, therefore got time to read and re-read your posts without distractions. Hope Jill will not interpret Bette bringing white lillies into something its totally not. Or will she?
hmmmmmmm… did eric bring jill white lillies… and she is thinking its ok for her to go after bette.. I THINK NOT… one more week… come on home tina… remember my heart… pps
I’m a bit scared of your next post there was a “:(” next to it. That can’t be a good thing, or is it? Thanks for the post! I love them!
okay..that was quite the forboding post…you have me worried…really! i know you like the drama, but “..” you know…?!
Ok, bring Tina on home to Bette! PPS
That’s not a good sign. Please let the white lilies mean that he wants her to not pursue Bette. OMG, Tina come home! Thanks alch.
Had to comment twice. I think Bette had a dream about standing in a field of white lilies covered in blood. If I am remembering correctly, then this is definitely not a good sign. Still loving alch.
Poor Jill. I hope she can start letting go, without misreading Bette’s offering of white lilies. What did Alice know about Eric? When’s that going to come to light? Or maybe it shouldn’t. And your preview: Heartless? *blinks* Should I be worried, or… Nahhh. I’m just gonna trust you, Alch. Thanks for the “half” chapter. :)
What an amazing ride this is!! I told you before … you’re writing is a book I can’t put down… one i would read in a day!! I’m a little worried too about “heartless”….. :)
Oh, is this a good sign or a bad sign? It is a good sign in that Jill has been given the go ahead to move forward, but it could be a bad sign if Bette is that person that Jill wants.
That doesn’t sounded right to me:(Come on Jill, the lilies didn’t mean anything, really. And another week to go…hopefully Tina will be back soon, even though I don’t know if anything could be changed if Jill made up her mind:(So much drama, and I can’t stop reading it.PPS
oh nooooooo… Why is the clue ‘heartless’? :( It’s going to be bitter sweet huh? Though knowing this is essentially a Tibette story, I can’t help but to feel down about the incoming temporary(i hope) separation- even after the week :O
woooo that was a longgg chapter, not that im complaining, it was brilliant.i hope that Jill doesn’t misinterpret the flowers as a sign that she should be with Bette. even though she said she would never take Bette away from anyone, she might change her mind because of the “sign” from Eric. im gonna join the other devote Tibette fans and say “Bring Tina home” pretty please. anyway thanks for the post and PPS
I love your long chapters. They’re always such a good read. Thanks a lot for the updates!
OMG! Alchy…you ended with a :(. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cling to your inner-Tibetteness that happy is in the future. You wrote the tender moment between Eric and Jill. Well done! Of course…you set us up for that white lily moment. UGG!!!! Please, Jill go away soon…PPS! Love ya Alchy…you so Rock!!!!!!
I am a silent reader….most of the time. But what can I say! Thank you for this story……I love the Bette that you created…..she is different. PPS
That was great and now bring back B&T home and be together again. Please post more, thanks!
You know, you make it difficult for me to leave my place for some days. Even if it is to bring a little sanity in my brain. It’ s the second time that I wasn’ t home and when I’ m back I read two chapters like these two. Hmp… (frustrated sigh)! I want them back together. I can’ t take it any longer. Please… please bring them back together! It hurts too much… Please? Kisses.
