    Jess — Plan B; pt. 94

This is not good. Mom’s at home freaking out, and Bette’s making me head directly into the eye of the storm. Directly. No going in through the back and making a dash for my room. No going in through the window, which, trust me, has an even higher success rate for non-detection. I think I can even get Porter in that way; she seems pretty limber for her age.

Nope, though. That’s not what I get. Instead, I get marched to my doom.

Maybe it’ll be Porter’s doom, rather than mine.

In any case, if mom goes swinging blindly, it could be trouble. If she’s not paying a lot of attention, Porter and I could end up looking alike to her. She may not care who she goes for, as long as she gets a target.

    “Jess, stop dragging your feet.”

Easy for you to say, Porter. You probably haven’t seen mom angry. Or if you have, maybe you’ve forgotten.

I wanted to just open the door and walk in, but Bette knocked. I guess maybe a little early warning wouldn’t hurt. Then she opened the door and shoved me inside.

So much for using the kid as the shield.

“Jess! Where were you?”  Mom grabbed me in a big hug.

Then I guess she saw Porter, since all of a sudden, she was squeezing me within an inch of my life.

    “MombreatheI need to breathe.”

    “Hi, T.”

Real smooth. Maybe mom will break your ribs next.

    “I I was worried about Jess. I didn’t expect”

All of a sudden, commando Bette’s not quite so in-your-face. “We were talking. We met up this afternoon.”

    “Jess?”

Me? I thought maybe they’d just forget I’m here. “Huh?”

“Why didn’t you tell me where you were when I called? Obviously you were close.”

Because I didn’t want you to freak out, which seems to be kind of what you seem like might happen any second now. “I don’t know.”

    “Fine. Jess. To bed.”

    “Bed?”

    “Bed.”

“C’mon, T, it’s early. At least let her eat dinner.”

Huh? Bette’s sticking up for me? Cool.

Mom looks ready to say something, but I think she’s backing off on the thought. Hurrah. Off to the kitchen I slink.

“Don’t think you’re off the hook.” Great. Porter’s doing the discipline thing. I guess that means her allegiances are shifting now that she’s entered mom-land.

“I didn’t know she hadn’t told you where she was going, T.”

“And that’s it? All’s better? Do you know how worried I was?”

Yeah, now’s a real good time to be slinking into the kitchen, and hiding. I don’t think I want to eat, but I do want to be out of the line of fire.

“T. We’ll talk about this, later.”

“And if I don’t want to talk?”

Then, this was actually kind of cool. Bette Porter did sort of like she did at Shane’s. She just took a seat on the couch. “I’ll wait.”

    “Excuse me?”

Uh, mom, she just out-stubborned you.

“So, T, how did your day go?”

Just like that. Gotta give Porter some credit for guts.

Maybe I will eat something. Just to make sure I don’t get kicked to my room again. But maybe someone else is hungry. I took a risk and did a walk-by mom. “Bette, would you like something for dinner?”

    “What are you having?”

“Um, looks like mom’s got some nice chicken in there.”

Porter was kind of nudging her head towards mom. “Would you like something, mom?”

    “I’ve eaten.”

“Is it okay if I feed our guest?”

Mom looked between Porter and me, and let out something that sounded like a groan. She turned, and in an instant, had vanished to her room.

I’m so not in trouble. Cool.

But then Porter got up and walked after mom. “Rain check, okay, Jess?”

Uh, for her, maybe. But that chicken looks good. I’m not waiting.

    1. I get to be first – what an honor – this was a great chapter and exaclty what I wanted Bette to do – be direct be consistent and be assertive – let go of fear and embrace your desire – thank you and can Tina act sane now or at least talk and give Bette a chance.

    2. EXCELLENT!! Bette out did Tina in the stubburn deparmtent! LOVED IT!!! Jess was on Bette’s side (or really on her own) and I loved the way that Bette handled that. Now she needs to burst into the bedroom and tell Tina to get a grip and act like an adult!

    3. LOL, it’s hard to tell where Tina gets her strops and stubborness from as both Bette and Tina seem to give as good as they get. Love it how Jess switches between calling Bette, Porter and Bette dependent on her mood. I love the dynamic between these three. I don’t think I could love this story more, but I’m sure I’ll be happily proved wrong :)

    4. P could you have bette smack tina up side the head for me??? come on now I’m a huge fan!!! lmao or maybe put some gloves and help T pull her own head out her ass??? maybe jess could supply the KY.

    5. Did Bette do some soul searching/decision making while on her way back to Tina from New York? I really like her strategy of “waiting”. I think she found the secret to both Jess and Tina weakness. If you stop, not only will missyang cry, so will I and it’s not nice to make old ladies cry, right? Thanks for sharing this story.

    6. Wow…I can’t wait to see Bette and Tina in the bedroom, even if they are only going to talk. And luckily, I don’t think there is a lock on the door, we all remember the unfortunate event of Jess walking in, to keep Bette out. Please don’t make us wait too long for the next post!!!! I glad that Jess is on Bette’s side…let just hope that Tina will get there also.

    7. Bette being calm, cool, and collected. “I’ll wait.” What a perfect thing to say to someone who is being stubborn and irrational. Loved this Pseud. Hurray back to us. I can’t wait to see what happens in the bedroom.

    8. what do you mean that you will be away for awhile?!!!! Nnnnooooooo. As for the ‘hint’, well you better do it or I’ll find where you live and come and sing outside, by the way…. my voice….not pretty!!! I’m with mc, great to see Bette in this light. I do love this story. So, seriously, how long to the next post?

    9. The non-LouReed version of a perfect day is: get up at 11am, go shopping and get some nice&cheap clothing, have a wonderful Chinese buffet, take funny pictures with friends, then the last but the most important element — go back home and find another update of this story waiting for me(us, of course, heehee). Thanks for making my perfect day.

    10. Go Bette, Tina I have stuck up for you when many have slagged you in this chapter, but please Tina get a grip give Bette A chance too talk. Love it can’t wait for the next chapter

    11. you can’t just leave us like that, is tina forgiven bette? she’d better because bette is doing the right things and she’s great and bonding with jess…i really want B&T together, better take that hint to consideration or else…LOL, wonderful story, love jess’s POV

    12. AWESOME!! Bette was direct and handled both Jess and Tina with finesse. Jess’ loyalty to Bette depends on her mood…hmmm wonder where she gets that from? LOL. Tina needs to stop and simply listen to what Bette has to say. Love the update…thanks.

    13. thanks sooo much for this chapter!! I am always looking foward to you chapters. please please please post again soon. I really liked the way Bette was. she knew what she wanted nd she went for it. Tina can’t back down. it’s either gonna end up really good or really bad. please post soon. keep writing. I’ll be reading.

    14. If someone behaves as a child, it´s necessary to treat him as a child. The problem arises when this someone is an adult. What is it possible to do in these cases?Be calm, Pseud will explain it to us.The sooner, the better, don´t forget that. These small and frivolous dramas make the boring daily life much more entertaining. Thanks Pseud.
