    Jess — Plan B; pt. 86

Something’s going on. Something weird. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since there’s been a lot of weird happening since Porter followed me home from New York. But still, it doesn’t mean I always expect weird.

School’s done. Essentially. We still have to go for two days next week. But finals are over. To me, that says done.

To celebrate, Luis asked me out to the movies. I told him it had to be a comedy. No love story stuff, and nothing sad. Between what’s going on with the adult member of the household and the way I find myself thinking about him, let’s just say I don’t want to go testing limits in the short term.

Besides, I told Porter that in order to learn about stuff, before I’d do anything I have to talk to mom.

I’m going to die celibate. I don’t know why I’m going to the movies tonight. I should probably be entering the convent, instead.

Still, I gotta figure mom’s going to grow out of this stage someday, right? And maybe Porter’d even put in a good word.

So, with thoughts of a nice safe comedy swirling through my head, I arrived home a little late. I mean, a girl does have to go out with friends and celebrate the annihilation of another school year, right?

Seated on the couch was not mom’s current romantic interest. It wasn’t even a woman. It was Uncle Frank.

    “Hey kiddo.”

    “Hey.”

Now, it’s not abnormal for Uncle Frank to be sitting around in the living room reading the newspaper, which is what he was doing. It’s far less normal when he’s doing all that, though, and mom’s not hustling in the kitchen cooking up some huge spread.

    Uh oh.

    “Mom around?”

He motioned over his shoulder. “She’s back talking to Alice.”

    “So, maybe I shouldn’t”

Just then the door of mom’s room opened, and Aunt Alice came bustling out, a pint of ice cream and a couple dirty spoons in hand. “Hey, Jess, you’re home early.”

Earlier than not coming home at all, maybe. But apparently early not for those who aren’t keeping score of where the kid’s at. “I guess.”

“Did you, umm, need to talk to your mom?”

The way Aunt Alice asked the question, I knew it was one of those that I should be saying ‘no’ to.

    Geez. What’d Porter do?

Then I felt kind of sick to my stomach, wondering if she told mom what I’d told her. Although, in a way, that’d kind of be a relief. Mom would know, and I might not have to join that convent after all.

“Luis asked me to the movies.” Something went through Aunt Alice’s look, I don’t know. Maybe Porter did blab, after all. And then she skipped town. Perfect timing.

“Okay.” Aunt Alice caught her bearings. “Your Uncle Frank can drive you. And go with you.”

Huh? Go with? On a date!?! Great. Porter did say something.

“You know, Luis said his mom can drive us.” She never wants to actually see any movies we watch. I really don’t believe Uncle Frank would, either.

“Not necessary. Look, your very own chauffer.” She pointed to Uncle Frank. He wasn’t looking any more pleased about this than I was feeling, at least.

“Great. Thanks.” What am I supposed to say? Except, of course, I can’t wait to talk to Porter, and find out what she told mom. By that point maybe mom will have calmed down enough to listen, and I can do a little damage control.

With Porter’s help, of course, once she gets back from New York. She got me into this mess, she can help me fix it.

Like I said, I’m kind of really nervous now, about talking to mom. So it’s a good thing mom’s sequestered herself. In the short term, that is.

At least it’s not like one of her break-ups. I can remember a few of those. Not good. Very not good.

At least I get a movie out of this. And popcorn. Oh yeah, Uncle Frank. I get a chaperone – you get a dependent. Given my restrictions on the strike zone and being able to hang around my own house, I gotta get something out of this.

    “Okay, Uncle Frank. Let’s go.”

    1. Wow Bette left with Jess holding the bag so to speak. So did Tina and Bette break up or what.I need clarification. Thanks p for another chappy even though its short.

    2. Hoho, Jess started to realise the importance of Bette. Is Bette permitted to come back from NY? Will Jess need to go on her grand adventure again? Finding Bette…

    3. oh poor Jess..and poor poor Bette..and poor me too..lol..Jess is so cute..and i really think she wil be the one who will resolve all this mess..and make her moms talk..great chapter P..post soon thanks :o)

    4. Thanks for the post…Jess is NOT going to be any too happy when she finds out what her mother (as in Tina) did. It seems like she has taken to Bette and is waiting for Bette to return. I just hope that Bette is still not crying in the convenience store parking lot without her cell phone!!!!

    5. Well at least Jess is starting to think of her and Porter as a team. Bette’s definitely gonna be the soft touch in that household if she comes to her senses and turns that damn car around! Make her come back!!! Thanks for continuing this, if you hadn’t noticed after the many times I’ve said it – I do so love this story.

    6. Oh, oh…..Bette took a bullet for Jess. Will Jess help her out later? Will Alice come clean and try to help Bette? Will you post another chapter today? All these questions can only be answered by you….Thanks for writing!

    7. Yes!!! You continued the story. I knew you had it in you. Keep those creative juices flowin and post when you can. Get those lines of communication going for Ms.Kennard and Ms. Porter.

    8. poor jess, she doesn’t know what’s gong on…so how much time passed since last chapter? seems like some timw and bette is in NY…i hope alice will make tina see that she acted irrational and B&T can work things out…thanks, awesome story

    9. Jess doesn’t have a clue what has happened between her two moms yet but Bette really need her to stand by her. It seems that she’s not mad that Bette has spilled to Tina…it’s a good thing. I hope Bette doesn’t leave for NY before giving one more try to talk to Tina. Or maybe it’s time Tina runs after Bette. I’m sure you will have some more drama for us. Thanks for the post, whatever the length.

    10. Great story! Always enjoy the read. Hope Bette comes back and fights for Tina and Jess. She should not run even though Tina told her to. This is a test that Bette must pass, so please bring her back to fix things. Thanks a bunch, post soon.

    11. “I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since there’s been a lot of weird happening since Porter followed me home from New York” Uh yeah, Jess. That’s because you are instigating a lot of that ‘weird’Jess’ wondering what Porter did is such a teenage thing to say. She expects that all of the world’s (meaning her world) problems are because of what someone else did. Granted Bette may have flipped on Jess, but the reason that happened is because JESS did something to begin with. It’s just convenient for a kid to forget that fact.Jess should be happy that it’s only Uncle Frank that is shuttling her back and forth to the movies, it could be so much worse.Tina was behind closed doors with ice cream. Both Jess and Bette should be worried. Can’t wait to see how this all plays out!Excellent. More, we want more!
