    Author Notes:

    Another one of my efforts at a B&T beginning.

    Bette placed the earring in Tina’s palm, using her free hand to close Tina’s fingers around it. She hadn’t even realized she was going to do what she did next. But it just seemed right. Bette tilted her head to one side, leaned in and kissed Tina gently on the lips.

    She saw a rush of red fill Tina’s cheeks as she backed away. Tina blinked her eyes open and looked down at her hand.

    “Thanks,” she said quietly, still gazing down.

    “For the earring or for the kiss?” Bette asked.

    Tina looked up, catching the trace of apprehension in Bette’s voice.

    “Both,” she replied.

    “Are you free to join me for lunch?” Bette asked. “There’s a great café about a block away.”

    “Actually I…” Tina hesitated. “I’m meeting Eric for lunch. And if I don’t leave soon, I’ll be late.”

    “Oh,” Bette was disappointed but not entirely surprised. “Another time perhaps.”

    Bette could tell Tina was chewing her lip nervously.

    “I’m going to be in this area Monday if that works for you?” Tina asked. “I can stop by around one o’clock?”

    “I’ll take care of a reservation,” Bette said, smiling broadly at the unexpected invitation. “How long will you have?”

    “Hour and a half?” Tina replied with a question in her voice. “I should be back at the office by three at the latest.”

    “Plenty of time,” Bette responded. “If we have that much time, I have an even better idea of where to take you.”

    “I’m looking forward to it,” Tina said.

    She turned and exited Bette’s office, gripping the earring tightly.

    “So am I,” Bette said quietly to herself after the door clicked shut. “So am I.”

    Tina leaned back against the closed door and finally let herself breathe again. Her heart was racing and she felt a nervous tension in her stomach.

    ‘I’m dealing with a bit of a crush,’ she thought to herself for the first time. ‘And I think I just made a date with a woman.’

    She pushed her body from the doorframe and stood tall, taking a moment to feel more composed. She glanced up and down the hallway outside of Bette’s office and, seeing no one, gave herself permission to smile widely at what had just transpired.

    30. I love beginnings..and I love your writing. So, this sounds perfect. Plus, beginnings are usually all about the anticipation, the building up of love/lust, and all that jazz. Basically, I love them because I hate angst..the show had enough angst in it between these two to last me a lifetime.
