“I’ve made a new friend,” Helena stated, crossing her legs elegantly as she relit her cigarette, “she watches me swim in the mornings although she thinks I don’t notice,”
“How are you sleeping?” Dr Kennard asked, “How’s your appetite?”
Helena shrugged,
“Any shopping?”
Helena shook her head slowly, “Not unless you count cigarettes and beer?”
“Maybe it’s passed then,” Dr Kennard suggested, “for now?”
Helena stared back at her, wishing she could share the same confidence.
Bette jumped out of her skin when she awoke the following morning to the sound of knocking at her front door, shortly before 6am.
She got up slowly, presuming it to be just Alice having some kind of an emergency, or Shane perhaps, calling by on her way home or after finding herself locked out.
Instead it was Helena who stood on the doorstep holding a brown paper bag and a carton of grape juice, smiling widely, “Hey,”
Bette rubbed her eyes sleepily, “Hi … Helena, what are you doing here?”
“Breakfast!” Helena announced, she lifted her shades and stared Bette directly in the eye, patting her own belly as she spoke, “from the look of that cheesecake you left on my doorstep the other night I take it you don’t cook much?”
She let herself in without really waiting to be invited, calling behind her, “Do you even ‘eat’ breakfast?”
Bette stumbled, once again unsure what was happening, she followed Helena into the kitchen, “Er … no,”
“Well,” Helena stared back at her, “go get ready then!”
So Bette did as she was told, unable to resist the delightful smile that came from Helena’s lips, this kind of light that span out all around her as her eyes sparkled and her hands softly brushed Bette’s side as she entered her house.
Stark contrast to the woman who swam alone in the mornings, forcing her head beneath the surface as if trying desperately to block out the world around and maybe even drown herself. A woman who craved solitude and silence and who let Bette enter her space only briefly, and on her terms, for a split second and then was gone.
Bette frowned as she dressed, wondering who’d be waiting for her downstairs on her return, thinking that Jekyll and Hyde had nothing on the mysterious Helena.

very enigmatic but what happened to the Dr Kennard in the fuck me heels???? Tease. PPS
Somehow I knew Helena would wait for a more private party with Bette. I love all the mystery. Helena seems deeply wounded and lost, almost as though she is searching for an identity. I wonder if she’s really a writer? Oh, the intrigue… I hope you are able to post again soon – I still have too many questions! Great job, SS!
Nothing like a beautiful woman in a great pair of boots. :-) jinjur
Well, that clarified everything. Bette is gay. Does Helena have a little chemical imbalance or something? She seems a little manic. Or something. And the good Doctor seems rather a shrink. Well, all conjecture as the mystery deepens.
What happen to the Hottie in hiheels?? the beautiful Dr Kennard? Waiting to see where you go with this. thanks
so mysterious. i love helena…she’s totally eccentic..illusive…yeah, all of that…PPS
And the intrigue just keeps building! O.K. I’m going out on a limb here and say Dr Kennard is Helena’s psychiatrist…because Helena is either nuts or suffering some sort of depression. Perhaps something very traumatic has happened to her…loved one lost maybe??? Wow, I hope we get another post tomorrow!
hey Sofa, just catching up, this is very intresting, I was lost after the first chapter, after the 2nd. I thought there would be a love triangle and wondered what marina knows not I’m wondering what Marina knows because nobody at the party made her come clean. Waiting for the next chapter, get well soon. Thank you. Md
This is just absolutely outstanding! I’m hanging on every word! Doesn’t happen often! Geez!
