IM DONE!
[Sidenote…the following is my OPINION and can be taken however you choose]
Okay I know that I haven’t posted in forever, but for those of you who are waiting around for one of my stories…don’t hold your breath.
I AM DONE (Call it an indefinitie pause in my stories)
Seriously…as a fan of this show I am really disappointed in the storyline of Bette and Tina and it has really drained all motivation from me to continue writing. Granted my last story was a few months ago probably, but I did have some storylines on the backburner…and now they are just shot to hell.
In any relationship where monogamy has been compromised it is difficult and I am not saying what these two characters are going through is not plausable, but if the writers and producers played this couple up so much in season 1 as the picture perfect couple, they need to be more decisive about what they are going to do with them in season 3. Bette groveling and Tina being a bitch on wheels is not good television as Chaiken is so worried about producing. It is just a drawn out overdramatic attempt at stirring the pot with a little angst and drama between two of the main characters.
This tyraid may seem a bit childish or whatever but frankly I don’t care. I’m not bitching as a writer, or as a woman or as an anything. Television shows are meant to draw out emotions and play on people’s hopes and dreams as well as their failures…but this shit in season 3 is really pathetic. This show shouldn’t be called the L word..it should be called the F word for failure…because everytime any character finds an ounce of happiness they soon hit a failure somewhere along the path and it is just too much at this point.
What this message sends to the viewers is that right wing modern society is right, lesbians will never be happy. It as if the writers or producers are sending out the message that because these characters are trying to function in a homosexual relationship that they will relentlesly be plagued by injust wrondoings in both relationships as well as other aspects of life. And as we all know this is bullshit. Regardless of sexual orientation, living life is hard enough, the writers and producers don’t have to portray the main characters of the first show of its kind having all the hardhips of life and love shit down on them episode after episode.
What I do appreciate about this show is its portrayal of how hard it is for lesbian, gay, transsexual and transgender people to live their lives in prejudice cities and communities around the world. I do support this show in that it is the first of its kind with predominantly homosexual main characters, and Showtime should be applauded for that. But the writers and producers of this show do not have to take that opression to such an extreme level.
So after all my ranting and raving I will say this…I still love the characters and what this show has the potential to do…but the storyline sucks right now!!! aatnb@yahoo.com if you’d like to throw food and stuff at me

I have faith, that they will come together in the end,It will be a sad day for all of us. We need to be tough.and see this through thanks
i agree with you completely. i mean most people assume that you are speaking of the bette and tina story line, but i get your drift. all the story lines and couples this season are headed for trouble. and i agree completely that not only is that story line crap, but all the couples can’t seem to find any sort of happiness outside of a few episodes. life and reality are hard enough with out shows such as this one making it worse. it’s nice sometimes to watch a fanatsy or a love story in a show…it takes us away from the cruel realities of life. yes the show is ground breaking and yes it is the only one of it’s kind. but living a lifestyle that society doesn’t agree with is hard enough…don’t shit on fatasy realm of tv as well. and the politics and religious matter in the story…it’s ecoming a bit much. and i will have you all knoww I AM CATHOLIC AND I VOTED FOR BUSH!!! so leave the relious stuff like corrupting nuns and political crap out of the way…we get it enough in real life.
maybe its just freedom of speech mene
I agree…. totally…. here they are airing the first season… many people still think they are the perfect happy couple…stilll, i read chaiken said that bette and tina were based on her own relationship… hope that… they are still married
I agree but will try and tough it out hoping
shouldn’t this be posted on the discussion board or something like it?i get what you’re saying, and i totally understand where you’re coming from. before this season started, i really didn’t understand what the hell was going on in the spoilers and, quite frankly, i was appalled at the prospect of tina sleeping with a man or really even entertaining the idea.keep in mind that the characters in season one were still under development and therefore underdeveloped. there was (and is) a lot going on behind the scenes in the world of bette and tina, which is why we write fanfiction. personally, i understand the characters thus far, but only inasmuch as the writers want me to understand them. fanfiction (and just fiction in general) helps to work out the kinks and sometimes gaping plot holes i find in my mind.ilene chaiken is doing the best she can right now. she isn’t the only one who has creative authority over the show. if she was, then there would be no variety in the episodes. it would conform to her personality. thank god for her creativity though, otherwise this show (and this site on which you posted your complaint) would not exist. who knows? maybe if it wasn’t for the l word (and qaf) brokeback mountain never would have made it to the silver screen. this show has touched so many people in so many ways, despite its flaws. and you know – don’t deny it – that there is a couple out there right now going through something incredibly similar to bette and tina’s situation in s3. granted, i don’t agree with how tina is handling the situation, but i honestly think that in the end, things will work out as the fiction fates have planned. right now, though, i don’t even think the real writers know what’s going to happen.for this to have affected you as it has refutes your suggested name of the f word. the l word is not in any way a failure, because even though you may think the creators are overwatering the drama and consequently drowning the viewers, they’re really just creating life, the progression of love, the dissolving or relationships, renewal, birth, death – life. the l word.there’s no such thing as the picture perfect couple, and this show reveals that in a most flourescent way. with fiction, though, you create life. in fanfiction, if you aren’t happy with the way something is going, then it’s your job to alter it. you’re a writer. one of the older ones on this site, if i’m not mistaken. season one isn’t season three, and season two wasn’t just a setup to let us down in the realm of bette and tina. have faith. anger gets us nowhere but red in the face and ten years closer to dead. i don’t mean to preach if i have, and i do understand your quandary, but frankly, if i were you, i would stop complaining and do something about my discontent.
“J”… i feel your pain… but baby we have to have hope… and i do hope and pray it will get better… believe me its hard trying to write a chapter… how do i show the love they have for each other when each week on the show all they do is yell at each other… but we have to give it the time it needs… and if they don’t bring them full circle.. well baby…there is no season 4… then we all lose… e mail me any time… you know my address… even if you still want to vent… but hang in there…
I totally agree with you Season one is still the best …I have been torturin myself for past four weeks with this BS . I dint wait for six freakin months for this selftorture.I hope they do come full circle.Honestly If it was not for writers like you and so many others who still have kept my faith intact tht they will be backtogether and happy again sumday i would nt turnmy tv on every sunday. Although i knwo wher you are comin frm. Peaceout.
I, too, agree with your assessment. For whatever reason, infidelity will sometimes happen. That, in itself does not mean that you have stopped loving your partner but something has gone wrong in the relationship. Sometimes it becomes a wake up call when all other attempts at communication has failed. If Tina did infact, decide to go back to Bette, then she should GO BACK TO BETTE! Her actions now would only serve to invite a complete and total break down of the relationship. If Tina no longer CARES what Bette does or how she feels, then she should pack her bags and move on. Is she thinking that going back to a man is safer? Wrong…men cheat, too. IC is focusing on her failed 20 year relationship. B&T are playing that out for her. In my relationship of 23 years, infidelity happened once, 16 years ago. That act brought about the realization that notion of what life would be like without each other. In some ways, it brought us closer together that we had been for a long time. Now, we are mindful of each others feelings, needs, wants. We talk to each other but more importantly, we listen. IC needs to portray how love finds its way back. Maybe she can’t because, in her life, love didn’t find its way back. I am apathetic about this season and don’t look forward to each episode like I did in season 1. I find it difficult to watch the pain and indifferance between B&T. I feel so down after each episode. JMHO
I understand you, but we all need to have faith and hope the show will come around…..
