If I Fall: Chapter 19
By the time Shane made it over to The Planet, Alice was already seated at a table in the corner, busily typing on her laptop and only taking breaks to grab quick sips from the cup of coffee before her. The lanky brunette quickly spotted her friend and made her way over to table, casually sitting down across from Alice while removing her sunglasses and waiting for some sort of acknowledgement. Except, Alice just continued typing, clearly lost in her own thoughts and consumed with whatever it was she was writing about. And just when Shane thought the writer was finishing up, Alice’s fingers seemed to gain even more momentum, pounding furiously on the keys as her face inched even closer to the screen. Shane rolled her eyes and cleared her throat, hoping to get some much deserved attention because sitting there and watching someone else type was just about as entertaining as it sounded.
"Hello there, Yoda," Alice greeted, eyes still firmly glued to the computer.
"Uh, Al. I know you have deadlines and shit, but maybe you can put the laptop away so I can talk to you instead of the back of the screen?"
"Yeah, gimme one more…," she mumbled, finally hitting the save button with force and closing the notebook. "There. I’m all yours," she smiled brightly up at her friend.
"Great," Shane drolled, motioning to the waitress and ordering a double shot of espresso.
"So, why’d you call this meeting, Shaney?"
"What Al? Can’t I just want to have coffee with my friend?" the stylist replied innocently, although, it seemed way too put on for Alice’s tastes.
Alice instinctually rolled her eyes and shook her head lightly at this, knowing full well why Shane had called her here. "You spoke to Dana, didn’t you?"
Shane opened her mouth to protest, but quickly thought better about lying. "What!? How the hell did you know that?"
"I’m a reporter, remember? I can read body language better than you think. And you don’t do apprehensive so well." She took a sip of her vanilla frap as the waitress came by to deliver Shane’s espresso. Alice swallowed loudly and cleared her throat. "So I’m assuming little Miss Fairbanks has put you smack dab in the middle of this whole mess…right where you hate to be."

Am I first? Awesome. This is absofuckinglutely awesome, although I think you’re crazy for posting it the day before you graduate. Huge congrats on that, and as to writing Danish fic professionally, I’d kill for a career like that. Then again, you’re much more eloquent than I am, so maybe I should just deal with the fact that I have a boring job. Oh well. I love, love, love this so freaking much, and as much as I want them back together I think it’s good for Alice to try and stop that, at least initially. Still, you can’t stay away from your other half too long, even if your rebound girl is a bad mother fucker. Have fun getting that JD thingie, and post when you can.
Wow – a fantastic update, great to have more Danish writers back on line – but understand your absence and would like to offer my congratulatons on uyour graduation. Look forward to the next installment soon providing you don’t celebrate too hard.

First, congratulations on your graduation. I’ve been down that same road myself and appreciate how much effort your achievement represents. Second, another great chapter–the dialogue sounds very real, and it’s heartbreaking watching Alice struggle with letting herself believe that Dana still loves her. As much as I’m rooting for Dana and Danish, I’m also pulling for the rebuilding of Alice’s self-esteem. I’m looking forward to seeing how and if Danish can work their way back to each other. Great story!
This has been a fantastic past few days for Danish readers,
I don’t know exactly how that was just posted… Anyway, it is so nice that you and the others have blessed us with updates.I feel Dana’s pain, but I’m definitely siding with Alice right now. Dana has some more work to do. Jules seems ready to make it more difficult for her.Congrats on your graduation!!!
