    I Wouldn’t Change A Single Thing 8

Her words reverberate through my mind. I love you, Alice. Her eyes are filled with sincerity and her tears confirm she can’t be lying.

My mind goes blank. For one of the first times in my life, I don’t know what to say.

She grabs my hand, “AlAlice are you ok? Did you hear what I said?”

Did I hear what she said? Is she crazy? Maybe living with Lara has decreased her brain function. I stay silent, staring into her wide eyes.

She slides her chair closer to mine, placing our intertwined hands in her lap, “Alice I know this is a lot to deal with. I’ve sprung some pretty massive revelations on you in the last two days after months of not speaking or even seeing one another.”

I pull my hands away, “I can’t do this. I can’t do this with you right now Dana.”

Getting up from my seat I hurriedly make my way out of the caf.

Dana frantically pulls some cash from her purse, throwing it on the table, “AliceAl please wait.”

I walk through the doors of the caf, past my car, just walking getting lost in my thoughts.

Dana lovesme. After she put my heart through the ringer, she has the nerve to tell me not only does she love me, but she always has. I laugh. What bullshit. I continue to walk, unsure of where I’m going to end up. My mind races.

    Months Ago

I open the door, letting Dana into my apartment. “Hey baby, what took you so long? You were supposed to be here two hours ago.” I press my lips against hers.

“Huh, oh yeahwell my training, yeah, my training ran long.” She looks nervous. I pretend not to notice.

Wrapping my arms around her, “That’s ok. I still love you.” I wait for a laugh, for her to pull me back into her embrace, but she doesn’t.

Dana sits on my couch, “You know Al, could we just stay in tonight. I’m justI’m really tired.”

Something isn’t right. I plop down next to her, “Sure, babe. Whatever you want. Do you want me to order something? You know me; I don’t have much in my fridge. Well, nothing you can eat while you’re training.”
