I Just Wanna Turn to You

Dana wished she would have said yes. Yes, Yes, Yes!!! “Calm down, Dana.
Geez…” Without knowing it, Dana started skipping along the street,
oblivious to the fact that she had no idea where she was going.
Alice…Alice…Alice. That’s all she could think about. “I have to
find her.” She knew that she had to head down to the club to meet her
new coach, but she still had three hours. Dana decided to turn around,
even though she had no idea what she was going to say to Alice- if she
found her. She just wanted to talk a little longer. She wanted to have
a friendship with Alice. The most beautiful girl she’d ever seen. Dana
couldn’t understand. Here she was, her tennis playing career about to
get extremely big, and she was about to go find another woman, and
flirt with her. She knew that it was wrong. So wrong. She was suppossed
to be straight. She had to be straight. Or her career wouldn’t be. But
for the time being, it didn’t matter.

She passed the place where she had bumped into Alice. “Our bodies were
touching!” Dana thought. She knew she was acting like a high school
girl, but unlike everyone else she knew, Dana was never allowed to feel
that giddy feeling that everyone does when they’re younger and first
start dating. Dana never really dated anyone. She had always known she
was *****, and the thought of dating a boy just to make her parents
happy, or anyone for that matter, made her sick. She didn’t like boys.
She liked girls. But she wasn’t allowed to like them-at least, that’s
    what she felt.

She continued walking down the path that she had seen Alice walk
15 minutes earlier. She’d stolen a few glances at Alice as they both
walked away, but the third time she looked back, Alice was gone. So
that had to mean she was somewhere around where Dana was standing now.
    But where?

Alice was pretending to listen to Bette and Tina’s conversation about
married life and wedding gifts, but she really didn’t care. She kept
thinking about Dana. Turning her head to look out the window, Alice
almost spilled her coffee all over herself. There she was! Dana,
looking more lost than ever, was standing right outside The Planet,
looking for something. “As much as I love talking about blenders and
spoons, I have to go. I’ll call you both later!” Alice screamed as she
ran outside The Planet. Bette and Tina just stared for a minute, and
then went back to their conversation.

Dana was about to give up when she felt someone tap on her shoulder.

    “Ready for that guide?”
