    Hindsight – Chapter 21

    Hindsight – Chapter 21

    Main Entry: hindsight
    Pronunciation: ‘hIn(d)-"sIt
    Function: noun

Meaning:  understanding the nature of an event after it has happened

"Hindsight is always better than foresight"

“Bette… I…” she was looking directly at me, it was an intense look, I remember how she used look at me with the same intensity, I missed her looking at me like that, I held my breath as she began to speak, to answer my questions of whether she was happy, whether the suffering we had been through was worth the happiness she had now found, “I can’t even… begin to tell you… how much…”

Her words were interrupted…, that fucking cell phone, didn’t that interrupt a conversation we had this morning too, I wanted to hear what she had to say, what is it that she ‘couldn’t begin to tell me…’, ‘how much…’ what?  I guess I was destined to not have this question answered, but it wasn’t her fault, I just couldn’t believe that we had been interrupted…

I looked down to the floor, feeling… deflated…, I took a deep breath as I looked back to her, I tried to look at her gently to show I wasn’t annoyed, “go ahead…”

    “Are you sure…?”

I nodded and turned to see what Angelica was up to, she had been so preoccupied since we walked into the bedroom, I bent to her, smiling as she looked up at me with those huge dark eyes, I heard the sigh coming from behind me, I turned my head slightly and say the look on Tina’s face, I could take a good guess whose name she was looking at on the display of her cell phone.

“Its okay T… just answer your call…”  Did I just call her ‘T’, it came so easily, and god… how I hated seeing the pain in her eyes…, and I saw pain there now…, I also saw the hesitancy as she was about to press that dreaded button on her phone to talk to, I would imagine, the man she left me for…

    “Hi…, yes I’m still here…, I had to collect some things for Angelica…, no…, yeah…,”

I over heard her saying as she stood only a few feet from me and our daughter, her voice seemed quite clipped.  I remembered the edge you could have in her voice when she was taking a phone call under duress, and I guessed that this phone call could be classed as that too.

    1. What was the question? Oh, yeah. And so nice to see an author crushing the competition to be first to comment. It is, after all, of cosmic importance. I’d hate to see what you’d stoop to on the athletic field or in a nice friendly party game. Well, at least Tina made a start (JUST a start, little Miss One Page). And I’m sure you’ll be glad to know the sweatshirt cleaned up nicely, although I was so upset I couldn’t even spell Tikka properly. And Jo, I can’t wait to see your plan unfold.

    2. this was a really short chapter considering that most of it was from the previous one, so does this mean you will “right” this “wrong” of is this it. Thanks.

    3. Yay! Finally, Tina! I think Bette needed to feel that she has the strength to support Tina. Tina needed her at that moment… and she was capable of being there for her *sigh*… such a wonderful turn of events. I know you have complete control over this storyline… I have faith, Jo. Thanks!!!

    4. another wonderful chapter from you J — can i just say that i appreciate your techinque of repeating parts of the last chapter so i can follow what both characters are thinking on the same scenario. otherwise being a bear of very little brain i have to go back and re-read the previus chapter again. you are ever the genius my clam like chum — so did you find out if you had any pirates in your family tree — all those looters on that beach down there must have had you itching !!! a wonderful chapter buddy — and being first on your own chapter is behaviour which would not appeal to Dean Porter — looks like she’d go for me first – i made her president after all xxx

    5. Thank you for finally letting Tina answer Bette’s questions truthfully. I know it’s so hard for them, but they must learn to communicate with each other…this will be the key to them finding their way back to each other. I love this story and love the updates…please keep them coming!

    6. Perfect cliffhanger! I really think that there was nothing more to add for the time being. After all, wasn’t it the perfect (temporary) ending to a perfect “moment” between them at this stage of the process…? But again, who knows what “The Plan” foresees for the next update?… Stay tuned for the next of “Hindsight”!…

    7. Tina finally told Bette that she was not happy. Does that make Bette sadder that Tina is not happy but at the same time does it make Bette happy and gives her hope. Now just get rid of Henry (in a nice way if necessary) and have them start off sharing time with Angelica as a family.

    8. Bette will be sad to know that Tina is stil unhappy and that all of this has not been worth it. But allow Tina to tell Bette that she can be happy if she is back with Bette and then it will have been worth it.

    9. Hey Jo, as said Kword75 it was the perfect cliffhanger. You write this story beautifully and this is why we keep telling yout that we want moooore! ;) Well done, brilliant writer!

    10. Well now that Tina has admitted to Bette that she is not happy and it was not worth leaving her for Henry, that should make Bette feel happy…NOT! It’s fantastic that Tina is being honest about her feelings but if I were Bette I’d be hopeful at the possibilities of another chance with Tina & angry at the time lost with my daughter. I really wish these chapters were longer. One page at a time is slow torture. I bet your loving every bit of it, aren’t you? LOL! PPS.

    11. First off, glad that you were first. It bugs me when a reader posts first and hasn’t read the story. They just want to be first. Secondly, your writing and unfolding of a story that doesn’t have many locations is unparalleled on this site.Thirdly, the L3 convention is to be in Blackpool, England. How would you describe that city, town? Please be honest. And PPS.

    12. Finally Tina find the courage to answer that question and i think that strong she got by the closennes with Bette, she was, is and will be her rock. wonderful chapter J thanks so much

    13. Okay, we know the need and the want to comfort each other is still there. Tina finally stated the obvious. No she is not happy, and no it was not worth it. But maybe it was. Just maybe she had to do what she did to bring her back to Bette. Now we just need to get them to the next level. Knowing the only thing that will make Tina happy, and be worth it is being with Bette.

    14. I love this story Jo. Your writing is so awesome. I love the way you write the story from both of their perspectives. I think it is the only way to really understand each of their thoughts and emotions in totality. I’m glad Tina finally “spelled it out” for Bette and told her flat out that no, she is not happy. When Tina told Bette a few chapters back “I…don’t want…to be lost to you…” I thought she was telling Bette then that she wanted their life together back again. And I vote that Tina turn off her cell phone since Henry had the audacity to hang up on her. Please post soon!!!

    15. There is so much truth to the adage in all in your prospective. The different prospectives of the same scene is intensely facinating. These two who can never seem to get thier wires uncrossed seem to fall into each other even when their are miles and miles apart yet on the same page. It is a testiment to why they fell apart yet also why they stayed togethter so long. It’s more then what they say, it how they say it in thier voices, movements and actions. For two people so intune they definately hit sharp notes when they sing together. Thanks Jo for writing this chorus of thoughts. Please continue your I am so hoping for the chorus to be a heavenly experience. Thanks

    16. Holy cow!!!!! Bette’s head must be on overload after hearing that answer. That was great, just as I imagined we had to wait several chapters before hearing Tina’s thoughts….BANG you deliver again!!!

    17. HOLY CRAP woman, you did it again, here I am, jsut minding my own bussiness, and WHAM, I see youve posted in my absence ;) so I start to read, anticipating on this emotional rollercoaster you allways put me through, only to find out its impossibel… tears again, my friend, caused by your words, but there is faith that you will make it right, and the words that made me cry, are just a start…

    18. Great chapter..its so right that no matter what happens between them they find themselves always there for each other…with or without words they comfort each other…

    19. Hey! No Fair Me First! ;) Another gem you got there Jo ! Beautifully written and I am so glad that Tina had the courage to answer the questions Truthfully :) and I am even more happy that her answers were “No” . yay ! go TiBette !! :D Thanks for writing this wonderfully touching story . cant wait to read moreee . pps ! :)

    20. I get swept away everytime I read this story. I have to reread the last chapter I read to be able to read the next. Great writing. I wouldn’t have answered the phone either. It does add to the drama though!
