    Hello sex. I am loneliness.

“No,” she said with a firm tone. “That is not why I came in here.”

“Why did you come in here?” I knew the answer and she knew I knew.

She gave me an amused look, “Why does anyone go into a dive bar in the middle of the week?”

    “Loneliness and sex.”

She nodded her head, “Hello, I am sex.”

I smiled faintly, “Hello sex. I am loneliness.” We said it as if the two were mutually exclusive, what fools.

Once again she studied her empty glass, “This martini was shit. I really need another drink.” Her chocolate eyes met mine. They were filled with expectation. I hate being a sucker for beautiful women.

“Why don’t we head out and get you a good drink?” I didn’t need her to answer. I left a tip for the both of us and followed her outside. Do you think it is possible that shoes have attitude? I don’t know if it was the shoes or the way she swayed her hips but every step said fuck you. I didn’t know at the time it was directed at the whole world. She had flagged down a taxi. As I climbed in after her, I thought about asking where she wanted to go. She didn’t look like she cared all that much. I gave the cabbie my address. I must have chuckled as she gave me an inquiring look. “I am enjoying the irony of this situation.” I paused to give her the change to give me another look. I was most definitely growing to like her expressive face. “Just yesterday I was teaching a self-defense class. I warned my class about taking strangers into their apartments.”

“Are you worried about me hurting you?” The look she gave me sent a shutter through me. It wasn’t out of fear. She was planning on devouring me. I was pretty damn sure I was going to revel in the pleasure of it.

“Let me check.” I picked up her hand. I ran my fingers over both the palm and the back of the soft hand. “No, I don’t have to worry.”

She eyed me skeptically, “You can tell I am not going to tie you up and rob you by my hand?”

    1. Thank you for posting this, it was amazing from the very first word to the last. So many feelings and emotions. As for the erotic part of the story, these lines were the best: “I slid out of the car. I didn’t look to see if she was following me. I got the confirmation I needed as her heels hit the wood of the stairs.” It somehow sounds very sexy, it must be the atmosphere you created with your writing. Once again, thanks for this brilliant story.

    2. Your command of words just takes my breath away. I have never read anything so beautifully written yet heartbreaking at the same time. You my friend are a wonderful writer.

    3. That was achingly sad, yet it was also hopeful…there really are good people out there in the world, who every once in a while show up at just the right time, giving us just what we need. Thank you for this…beautiful.

    4. So V, how’d you get so wounded and jaded. I quite liked the cop. I wish NYC could recruit a few more professors into their ranks, it would do a world of good. I remember seeing one corner a bad guy in Times Square once (back when it was pimpolicious). As a result of the cop adopting the classic “come to papa” pose, like the bad guy was going to jump into his arms, he took several shoots to the jaw. It was kind of like watching Mrs. Peel in The Avengers and thinking “kick him in the nuts, he’s wide open for it”. Oh well, law enforcement 101.

    5. R, NC17? I dunno, but that’s one of the most poetic R/NC17’s I’ve ever read. The atmosphere was palpable. With all the sadness of episode 9 and what’s to come in the remaining season, this rendition of the main character(s) and their struggles (especially Bette here) is a welcome respite. Look forward to the next one.
