    “I’m a non-practicing lesbian. When I left Bette I made a promise she was my first, last and forever.”

    “What do you for sex?”

    “I have three jobs. I don’t have time for sex.” Tina chuckled.

    Chapter 5

    Tina paused and bit her bottom lip.  She turned in her seat. “Sue, what I said earlier…that wasn’t actually true.”

    Sue turned to face her friend. “Which one, about being a non-practicing or having three jobs?”

    “The first one…”

    “…I know. I was kidding about not knowing you being a lesbian,” she explained, “my sister stopped by and we saw you in the cafeteria having lunch with Jackie from x-ray. She said you and Jackie were …what was the term she used?…oh yeah. (drops her voice to a whisper) “eye-fucking” each other. She told me that you and Jackie had something going on and I said, “no way.” My sister’s gaydar is spot on, plus there were times when I saw you sneak out of the developing room with Jackie. I’m sure there was something developing there more than x-ray films.” Sue teased her friend with a chuckle and a gentle push on the shoulder.

    “Shit,” Tina whispered, “I wonder who else noticed.” Tina bit her pen. “I’m sorry I lied to you and I’m not seeing Jackie anymore. It’s been months. It turns out she and Kiene, the ultrasound tech had something going on and was using me to make her jealous,” Tina chuckled, “at least they’re in the same department. I want you to know, as my friend, that I don’t sleep around. After Bette and I broke up, it took me a long time to even think about sex. God, what a mess I made…what a mess we made.”

    “I understand about you not wanting to tell me about your sex life. I’d share you mine, but right now it’s dead.” Sue turned back to the computer and started typing. “Christina… or should I call you Tina?”

    “You can call me Tina. Christina always sounds like I’m in trouble. I’m surprised I lasted this long answering to my full name, but yeah, you can call me Tina.”

    “Okay…Tina. Elizabeth…”

    9. Thank you for the great update. My comment to the previous chapter on Bette being guilty too was meant as a reply to other comments, and not directed to Bette.

    11. Can I assume the silent reaching for each other is an unconscious response to memories of their past together? Or is it a ‘time heals all wounds’ kind of scenario, and Bette is allowing her feelings for Tina to come to the surface? Cheating isn’t the endgame that some make it out to be…and for some reason Tina (in the show and seemingly in your story) is more ‘judged’ for cheating with a man than Bette is for cheating with a woman. I have more thoughts on the matter…but not for public consumption.

    12. I don’t know why I got that impression that Tina had been celibate… clearly not! That’s neither here nor there, though. It will be very interesting to see if they continue to seek each other out and how they’ll interact when and if they do see each other from this point forward. Thanks for the post, tg. :)
