    Heart of Glass: After Parties

Helena sighed and sunk further in her seat.  “Oh, not long. You know Alice—she never stays mad at you for long.”

“True.” Bette thought about that for awhile. “I’ve owed her a few apologies over the years.”

Helena nodded, remaining silent for the rest of the ride. She even remained silent as they got out of the car, walked inside Bette’s house, and flopped onto the couch.

“Want me to do something.” She said finally.

“I’m going to change. Open some wine, help yourself to anything you want.”

“Thanks darling.” Helena cheered up somewhat as Bette walked down the hall, shirking her jacket and unbuttoning her shirt as she went.  Having access to a clean and fully stocked kitchen practically made her squeal with delight.  By the time Bette returned, Helena was chopping onions and peppers beside a heating pan.

    “I thought…food.” Helena said meekly.

Bette sighed with fatigue and happiness all at once.  “That would be wonderful—I was going to thaw some things, but this…this is great.  Can I help?”

“Crack some eggs? We’re going to have Mexican omelets and a few sides that I think I can throw together quickly.” She even started to whistle as they prepared food.

“I think I’m going in late tomorrow.” Bette said mournfully.

“Wah wah wah.” Came the cheerful response. “Life is hard for our brilliant president.”

“I’m not the president.” Bette waved an egg menacingly in Helena’s face, threatening to break it open on her forehead. “I’m Dean…there’s a difference.”

“Professor.” Helena hummed. “Professor Porter…Dean Porter…Ooooo, Dean Porter, can I feel your muscles?” She squealed and ducked as Bette swung a towel at her.

“Who told you about that?” Bette continued to snap the towel at Helena as she snickered and leapt away.

It was 2am and the rest of the party still had not appeared.  Bette and Helena grabbed a bottle of wine and ate beside the pool, sitting side by side on matching lounge chairs.

“Tina was flirting with you.” Helena said matter of factly. “Tonite, at the Planet.”

“No she wasn’t.” Bette groaned and stretched, watching as Helena poured two glasses of wine.

    1. No, helebette not gyno anything, I should be so lucky. Echocardiography. I get to see quite a few chests (and whatever may be attached to them, like EKG leads) but mostly they are approaching 80 years old, so few thrills. And I must maintain my professional attitude regardless. But at least I got on A on ultrasound physics tonight! A little more worried about tomorrow’s, and here you are posting, which keeps me from my studies. Oh well, tomorrow’s another day! But in the meantime, I enjoy how this one proceeds, just a little drunk, just a little sly, just a little shy. Now bring me the others! And you, sofa-London Town! We’ve been more than patient. And God knows, I need a Vacation.

    2. I’ve missed your posts big-time! Your explanation for Bette’s not visiting Helena in jail makes perfect sense. And I appreciate your acknowledging the emotional repercussions of the prison experience (I won’t be surprised if IC treats it as a big joke in Season 5). I love the tentative dance Bette and Helena are engaged in, and I hope this “fun tension” phase of their relationship isn’t short-lived. I’ve been impatiently waiting for four years and I still haven’t heard a single Belena comment escape IC’s lips, so what is the “mocking reference” to? Delighted to hear that your five stories are “in the works” because I’m mighty attached to them all.

    3. Oooh, so close…. If Bette hadn’t come down with an awful, sudden case of foot-in-mouth disease, they could’ve gone there. Pity. Wonder how she’ll fix that gaffe, silly woman. Hels is the forgiving type it seems, so maybe she’ll let it slide… Or not. Very nice, hb, very nice. More as you can please, thanks!

    4. I don’t like Tilena =P because of Tina, In a way I think she used Helena, to get back at Bette and I didn’t like Helena because she was Bette’s enemy (rolling eyes) but who knows, maybe you can change my mind heheh… This chapter was AMAZING!!! Bette’s explanation was perfect, I loved it!!! PPS
