    Hard To Forget

With one last glance at the mirror, tucking that stray strand behind her ear, she made her way out the door.

There was a party she needed to attend…, trouble was she had absolutely no interest in being there.

Her best friend had gotten engaged…, ‘whoopee’, she remembered the way she had reacted as if she held the invitation in her hand right at the very moment, but she had chastised herself for the reaction.  She should be happy…, no, she should be thrilled…

Somehow, she had found it impossible to be thrilled or happy and that had made her feel like she was betraying her friend, the best friend she had ever had.

There was something inside her though, there was the ripple of excitement at seeing the woman she hadn’t laid eyes on for more time than she cared to admit, be it on purpose or by circumstance, they hadn’t laid eyes on one another for a long time.

That wasn’t to say that Bette’s mind was filled with thoughts of her on more occasions than she cared to admit…

They had met in college…, instantly becoming good friends, on one hand they shared a dorm so they had no choice but to get to know one another, but they became inseparable friends even when they were on opposite sides of the spectrum with their personality and the course they were attending.

One was introverted, the other was extroverted.

One studied art, one studied media.

    Time brought them closer…

But time also brought them feelings…

When those ‘feelings’ happen in a friendship it can work two ways, you understand them, you don’t understand them…

Bette and Tina didn’t understand them.

Bette and Tina didn’t deal with them.

Feelings, isn’t that one of those things that is best ignored and it goes away, young minds would think so, mature minds know better.

Ignore them and they will go away, push them as far away as you possibly can. The further they are away the least likely they strike in order that you will have to deal with them.

Unfortunately for each one, the further they pushed them away the harder it was to deal with them.

The more they pushed those feelings aside, the more intense they got.

    1. I love your collaboration, and I think it’s great that you made Jo work while she is home! LOL I’m sure it wasn’t a hardship, from what I hear she enjoys the collaboration with you hun. Now, how on earth does this lack of contact actually occur huh? Get these gals TOGETHER, Pronto~ Oh, and I have to tell you, I loved the last line. Off to dinner, thanks for the post! xo

    2. Off to a good..but sad start> hve always loved both your writings s i know I won’t be disappointed. Poor Bette does dispair well doesn’t she? You just really ache for that character..well done and thanks!

    3. At first I was just presuming that their lines of communication became less and less…but then with each of them saying that letters, emails & calls went “unreturned,” it sounds like they either have incorrect info or are just blatantly ignoring each other? But the engagement party invite arrived – so now the moment of truth?!! PPVS :)

    4. I’m hooked, but confused. What happened, they are both thinking the same thing, that their attempts at contact went unanswered. If they both kept trying who intercepted their calls, letters, emails, etc.? Or did they just not answer the other? What? PPS

    5. Wow! We are really hooked. No doubt that this story comes out of two brilliant minds. Can’t wait to see what would happen when B&T meet. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks.- Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)
