    Guilt Intrinsic – Short Story

"Please," Bette started, deciding to let Tina have some space. "T … just let me say what I need to say! Please."

Tina saw Bette’s soothing, curing nature come out and she so desperately wanted to be comforted, but she felt betrayed. ‘How could she have read something so utterly personal and private?’ She stood in her place, allowing Bette to continue. ‘This had better be good.’

"I knew you would feel this way when I told you," Bette said, getting up from the sofa slowly and stepping around the coffee table. "I knew that, but I couldn’t not tell you I had found it. And I also couldn’t let you get so upset over something that isn’t in any way your fault. And I don’t want you to feel guilty about something a surprisingly large amount of women fantasize about, okay?"

Tina was more confused than before, watching Bette carefully.

"T … I know it gets a little tiresome to always be in charge, and when it’s just you and me, I know you like to give me that power over you … and this isn’t that different, okay?"

Tina looked to the ground, still breathing deeply with worry.

"I love you, and I know you must be feeling guilty right now – but don’t! Please … just at least listen to some of the things I read about this whole subject, okay? … And then if you still don’t want us to talk about it, I won’t."

Those eyes that had always reduced Bette to a pool on the floor were piercing into her again. She could see the sadness and confusion, and the longing for answers hidden within.

"Please sit?" Bette continued softly, finally stepping up to Tina and taking the slightly smaller hand in her own. She smiled. "I love you."

Tina looked to the floor and then back up to Bette with a shyness Bette hadn’t seen in a long time. "I love you too." It was barely audible.

"And I’m sorry," Bette whispered back, having to tilt her head down to watch Tina’s expression as Tina kept looking down. When she saw a small smile, she was relieved. "Come on babe, let’s sit."

After finally moving back to the sofa, they sat face to face and Bette began to explain a few things – including her own attraction to the literature. How she felt guilty from an attraction to it as well.

    1. I love that you aren’t afraid to tackle the topics that most people are uncomfortable with and would rather sweep under the rug. Great writers don’t concern themselves with people’s comfort levels. They write for themselves, not for the critics. Good for you and keep ’em coming!

    2. Wow! Way to handle this subject. I don’t know anyone that fantasizes about this, but I’m not surprised that there are women out there that do. Bette handled it very smoothly and I was very happy about Tina’s reaction to her confession. I don’t anything wrong with role playing, what people do behind closed doors is their business, as long as no one gets hurt it’s cool with me. Thanks for the post grindright.
