Chapter 58

Maria: oh.. before I forget.. uhmm

Tina: yes grandma?

Maria: what was up with the shower? I only heard it turn on one time.. and you are both showered.. (looking puzzled)

Bette shot her eyes open, looked down, but smiled at the memory of the peaceful moment they shared this morning in the shower. The feeling of that warm body against hers under the relaxing, warm water.. Tina being all sleepy and slow..

She coughed, looked Tina in the eye and made a gesture that she had to answer her grandma.

Tina on the other hand choked and was a little taken back from that question.. she didn’t expect it.. what was she gonna say.. she couldn’t possible say that they joined each other.. Although there are enough girls who shower together.. after training or school gym.. But not in your grandmother’s house!

She caught Bette’s eye and sighed.. of course.. Maria was her grandma.. she had to answer her.. get it out of the way..

Tina: ohh there’s nothing wrong with it! But since it takes a long time to get it up to the right temperature, Bette just hopped in right after I was done.. and we had to hurry, so we both showered really fast.. (smiling)

She looked at Bette, who had a bad, but proud smile on her face..

Bette: jup that’s true.. and I’m not used to that system.. so Tina put it on the right temperature for me.. I’m not that handy..

Maria: ohh I know what you mean kid, it took me a while too to get familiar with it.. but I always thought it was because of my age

And she laughed out loud..

Maria: come let’s head outside now..

They walked towards the open door when Vivienne shouted: ‘Tina, take the teapot with you please!’

Tina sighed and murmured ‘why am I always the one to get things from the kitchen! As if the rest does not have legs to walk on!’

Bette giggled and followed Tina.. she whispered: ‘are you pouting? ‘

Tina turned her head and whined: ‘it’s true.. we aren’t even at home and I still have to get all the things THEY did forget..’

Bette knew she did better not to push Tina any further.. it was still very early in the morning and although Tina got some sleep on the plain, she still slept way too little.. which caused Tina to be a little grumpy.

Finally they headed outside, towards the big breakfast table.. there was enough place for everybody to sit and Bette felt instantly at ease.. she never had such a big family.. only her dad and Kit.. and she found it absolutely cool to witness such a family tradition here on the farm.

Tina put the teapot on the table and coughed. All heads turned towards them, and Bette blushed.. she felt like a kid who stood in front of her new classmates after moving to the other side of the country..

Tina: everyone, I’d like you to meet my best friend for life, Bette Porter

And she smiled bright..
