Chapter 146 – The Big Picture

    Helena
could barely get a breath by the time she made it outside the courthouse.  Jerking the door open, Helena desperately sucked in all the air she
could.  The pounding pain that was
hammering behind her eyes wasn’t getting any better in this bright sunlight
that came with the fresh air.  Looking to
her right and then left, Helena
was at a loss which way to move.  For the
first time in a long while Helena
couldn’t see her path.  The map that she
had been following didn’t have this particular detour mapped out.

Today’s action in court had been going along fine until
Tina’s attorney requested the end of run sheet for the negatives.  Helena
instinctively moved to her right and began heading in the direction of the
parking garage.  She couldn’t wrap her
mind around how innocent sounding the phrase ‘end of run sheet’ sounded.  Who even knew such a thing existed.  Well Tina’s lawyer certainly did.  When he made his request, Helena could see the squirrelly Richard
Cramit literally shrink before her eye.  Jason
bolted from his chair, snarling his protest in defense of Richard.  Try as Jason might he couldn’t prevent
Richard from being taken off to jail.
The judge had found him in contempt of the court.

“The weaseling ***** I hope his night in jail is
    everything he hopes.” Helena
mumbles under her breath.  The pounding
behind her eyes wasn’t getting any better as Helena remember the scene in the courtroom when
she made her exit.  Helena blanched as
she thought once again of Richard Cramit.
Seeing the weasel start to cry as he was dragged away gave Helena little solace.  Jason had turned to Helena with the I told
you so look that Helena swore if she had a knife she would cut it off his
face.   Who was he to even glance her way
    with such a look!

Jason once again telling her, not asking but telling her to
drop these cases.  She had tried with all
her might to control the anger that was coursing through her veins.  The slap she laid on Jason was justified for
his insolence.  “God how I want to do so
    much more!” Helena
says out loud.  “When would he just do
    what he is told?”

    Helena
rubbed her forehead in an effort to find relief.  She needed to have just a little
respite.  A break, an escape from these
people who don’t seem to be capable of following the simplest of wishes without
mucking things up.  The vision of Samantha
sitting at dinner the previous night entered Helena‘s mind.  Samantha.
She had been an interestingunexpected find.  Thinking of Samantha brought a smile to Helena‘s face.  The smile faded as Helena realized even their dinner had been
interrupted.  She could fix that and get
    her escape.

    1. I really love this story. I can’t wait to read how everything turns out. But I will also be sad, because it will be over. Jwet, I really love your stories, so I hope when this one ends you’ll only take a short break before giving us another one. Hope you and yours are having a good Xmas.

    2. Rarely have the time to comment, but having persuaded the rest of the family to clear up after Christmas dinner, I’ve managed to escape to the den to read in peace. Just wanted to say that I think this story has been awesome right from the outset and am amazed at the breadth & scope of your story. Know it’s got to end sometime, but hope it’s not any time soon. Anyway, thanks and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
