Los Angeles Opera – 1996
The voices of the sopranos crescendoed, captivating every member of the audience. Well. Almost every member of the audience. Alice was distracted by the attention of her girlfriend. And a pair of opera glasses were surreptitiously trained on them as Alice progressed in her…distraction.
A knowing smirk passed over Bette’s face as she felt Alice respond to her efforts. The music wasn’t the only thing that was building up to an explosive and satisfying conclusion. Bette heard Alice do her best to suppress a gasp with that one last well calculated movement of fingertips. The aria ended and Bette joined the appreciative crowd in offering praise to the performers. Alice gathered herself together and also applauded, though it wasn’t clear even to her which part of the experience had left her breathless.
"Are you going to come up?" Alice asked a couple of hours later. Bette’s car was parked in the visitor’s stall by the front door of Alice’s complex. "I’d like to return the favor."
"You know…I would, but I have so much left to do to prepare for the Opie show on Friday," Bette begged off. "I’ll be in the office by 7 am, and it’s already so late."
"Okay," Alice tried not to sound too disappointed. She knew better than to try to sway Bette from a decision that had already been made. "I’ll meet you there on Friday?"
"I don’t want you to be bored," Bette started. "You know it’ll be a lot of me working the room to nurture business contacts – are you sure you want to come?"
"If it’s important to you, it’s important to me," Alice replied. "I can entertain myself."
"I’ll see you Friday then," Bette smiled. She leaned across the console for a chaste goodnight kiss on Alice’s cheek.
Alice turned to encourage more, but Bette leaned back with an unapologetic smile.
"Thanks for coming with me," Bette said.
"Anytime," Alice replied. She paused as if she had more to say, but then she opened the passenger door and walked to the main entrance of her building.
By the time she turned, all she saw were the tail lights of Bette’s car, already turning onto the street that led to her own home, a 20 minute drive away.

” but inconsistency is really nothing new when you’re talking about the L word.” – so true :) – and please continue
this story never gets old, please continue no matter how short or long you plan to make it :)
I love Tibette beginnings, Please continue
Your take on their beginning! What a treat!
Thank you for bringing back B&T from the show. Most of the stories have gotten so far away from the original characters that it’s hard to relate them. I look forward to reading more.
I’m looking forward to seeing how you address those inconsistencies. Thanks for posting! :)
Absolutely tbc! So nice to have you back.
ost definately to be continued please.
Yes please continue…good start even though I feel a little sorry for Alice.
Oh i love beginning stories…continue pls;)
No thinking…just posting! lol Thanks, well written and entertaining as always!
Swimmie, of course you need to continue. My question is wasn’t the artist dinner the same night as the Opie show because in the flashback on the show, Bette, Tina and Alice are wearing the same clothes. I like it that Tina has the “something about her…” feeling.

Story continuity really wasn’t a strong suit of the L-Word. S-3 had a lot of drama in so many ways. Talk about an opportunity wasted to tell stories in a quality way… Of course, I’m looking forward to more!
Love your stories….please continue!
Please continue. Ive always love ur writing
Interesting
🐠 swimmie, swimmie, swimmie 😌 please no more “tbc?” just continue. Always continue. Thank you, and happy new year!
A new story from you is just like a late christmas present.Thank you and a Happy New Year for you.
Excellent thank you and happy new year
Swimmie, Thank you for this story. Its beginnings are already so insightful as is the character development. I always felt that the writers from the FanFic site should have written more episodes than the original writers. You all have so much more depth than most of them did. Oh well. We can always relive our memories in the various posted stories. Great start and please keep going,
