    Friends ch. 39

Their two weeks was up and they felt closer to each other now, then they had been in the last ten years. Monday morning came way too quickly for them. They both laid in bed, their bodies intertwined, just taking in each other’s essence. They both had a hard time leaving the bed; they didn’t want to break the closeness that they had built over the last two weeks. After a couple hours they finally pulled themselves out of bed to get ready for work. As they broke their embrace, they spoke promises of phone calls and being home for dinner.

When Bette walked into the CAC, she felt a thick tension that was unfamiliar. She walked through the lobby and all eyes were on her. She shrugged it off thinking she was just being too paranoid. She went to her office and sat her things down and James immediately walked in.

“Bette, Franklin wants to see you right now.”

    “What is it?”

“I don’t know, but something doesn’t feel right. I heard something about the board members.”

“Fuck, I wonder what it means,” Bette said and James shrugged, “fuck, I do not need this. I had too good of a weekend to let Franklin ruin my good mood.”

“Good luck,” James said as she walked out of her office. She walked with haste to Franklin’s office and knocked on the door.

“Come in,” she heard him call sternly, “sit please.”

“What is this about,” Bette asked sitting, she noticed Bert sitting on the other end of the room. He gave her a nod and a half smile.

“Your work here at the CAC.”

“What about it,” Bette asked, sounding nervous for the first time in her career at the CAC.

“The Board and I have decided to go another way.”

“The board and you? You mean Helena Peabody and you?”
“Please Bette; don’t act like Helena has a personal vendetta against you. And no, she doesn’t even know we’ve decided this. She doesn’t even sit in on meetings. She’s a monetary board member, not an actual board member. Without Leo, she wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between obscure and abstract art. She’s on her way out anyway.”

“How can you speak so little of someone who is your biggest monetary contributor?”

    1. Amazing Chapter. I hope that Helena doesn’t screw Bette. Franklin was always an asshole. He’s afraid of Bette’s talent, vision and ability. She has more talent in her little pinky than he’ll ever have. Franklin is a hack, an administrative hack. Full of himself but no creativity.

    2. Franklin is such a dick. I hope the CAC sinks in the mire of bullcrap that Leo’s obviously sold them. On to bigger and Bette-r things, Bette’s L.A. gallery will be better than anything she could have done within the confines of the CAC. Thanks for the post. :)

    3. Great update. Franklin is an ass. Whether Bette knows it or not, he has done her a huge favor. As Tina told her she can now devote her time to establishing Porter West in LA. She will have more support than even she realizes. Go gettem’ Bette. Thanks for posting.

    4. Well Franklin is such a puss, he waited until he made all those profits, then he fired Bette. I hope Tina is right about trusting Helena(which I actually liked-later, when I met the girls at the Convention)to help, them.
