"Someone sure had a great time," James said as he carried another basket of cookies into her office.

Bette glanced up from her report her glasses slipping down her nose.

“Uh…you can put them over there,” she instructed pointing to the only available space.

James settled the basket on the floor.

“So should I ask why they’re all from Peggy Peabody?” James asked with a smile as he turned to face Bette.

    Bette sighed.

“She thinks I’ve done something wonderful. All of those,” she gestured to the flowers, the cookie baskets, and the wine and cheese basket, “are because she’s grateful.”

“I’m surprised she hasn’t come down here herself,” James said as he wandered towards the door.

“So am I,” Bette muttered turning back to her paperwork.

For the first time that day she was able to get work done for almost an hour straight until James called her.

    “Jodi Lerner’s here,” James said.

“Send her in,” Bette requested. “But call me in ten minutes if she’s not gone by then. I’ve really got to get some work done. Thanks.”

Bette’s office door opened and Jodi stepped in with a smile followed by Tom.

“Hi,” Jodi said with a slight wave.

“Hi, Dean Porter,” Tom greeted her.

    Bette smiled.

    “Have a seat. What’s up?”

Jodi glanced around curiously at the assorted baskets.

“Why all these flowers?” Jodi signed.

“Yeah this is kinda overboard,” Tom added.

“Oh,” Bette shrugged. “Peggy Peabody sent them. She wanted to do something nice for me. What’s up?”

“Why? What did you do for her?” Tom asked for Jodi.

Bette took her glasses off and placed them beside her paperwork.

“That’s not important,” Bette said with a small sigh.

“Okay. I thought that I would come by and see if you’re free tonight. Wanna go out?” Jodi asked.

    Bette’s smile was apologetic.

    “Sorry. I’ve actually got plans.”

“Really?” Tom couldn’t keep the surprise out of his voice.

    Bette nodded.

    “Cancel them,” Jodi ordered.

    “Can’t. Besides I wouldn’t want to. It’s a date.”

“A date?” Jodi asked while Tom mirrored her shock.

“Yes. Since we aren’t exclusive I decided that it was time I sought out other options.”

    “Is this your first date?”

“No. We’ve been seeing one another for a bit actually,” Bette replied with a small happy smile.

    1. I like the story but I don’t want Bette with Helena. That just does not work, I’d much rather Tina on the other end of that telephone. Great story though.

    2. i want bette with helena, tina…pfft, who’s tina? oh, sorry, writing a tibette, oops. anyway, you know where my loyalties lie…so write on sistah friend, that was soooooooo great. i love the dialogue between these two. pps! can’t wait for the next chapter *arches one eyebrow*

    3. It shows how far I’ve come that I think a good Belena story (and yes, this is quite good) is like touching down on sane ground… For reasons I don’t think I’ll ever know, I’ve been watching the Eurovision Song Contest… to quote Marlon Brando, “the horror…” I’ve seen abysmal glam rock rejects, silver-wrapped Teletubbies on crack, and the blight on humanity that was the UK’s entry into the contest. The sheer insanity of this, and the fact that a massive crowd was *cheering this cack on and enthusiastically waving flags in response*… I’ve witnessed insanity, and I really don’t think I’ll ever totally get over the experience… But(!) this story is a fine antidote. I’m not sure whether this is a one-off, and I’m rambling and need to shut up (might be the shock setting in) so I’m off to search for more stuff… I really liked this Speed, and I hope you get more of this out before you go away to hopefully Eurovision-free climes. Cheers

    4. Well that was considerate of Jodi to help Bette figure out her feelings for Helena. Thanks Jodi, and goodbye. “Free at Last” should be Bette’s anthem on the show too. Free Bette Porter!

    5. Ok, so first things first, thanks for posting Speed; I always love reading a new story especially from a gifted writer as yourself, HOWEVER, bad Speed with this Bette and Helena thing!! LOL…If you’ve got time to post girl, post Seventeen reasons why!!! Besides I thought you were going on vacation. I thought that meant, ya know, like a beach, some sightseeing, some sleeping in, not a leave of your senses and deciding Bette should be with Helena!! But I also agree with jp22 that a good story is a good story and way better than that drivel that IC churns out but, please, don’t make us suffer too long!

    6. I like where you are going with this and can’t wait for your next chapter. Excellent post by the way. Now will they have breakfest in bed or out? I guess it doesn’t matter just as long as they have it. And please don’t invite Jodi or Tina. Just say no!

    7. Maybe I should have said my vacation starts Monday. And breakfest? Sorry about that, should be obviously breakfast, lol. I hate mispelled words. And gigi1976 Seventeen Reasons Why might be out this week. It’s going to be a long chapter I think so I just might take my time with that. Besides Belena comes so easy to me whereas TiBette challenges me to think of things and it’s hard to write things for them. Thanks once again for all the wonderful comments.

    8. I can relate to that. I can read it over and over again, but once you press that leave comment button all you can say, I can’t believe I just did that. Now on a better note have yourself a great vacation. You know relaxing, writing, going out, writing, eating, and writing. Sound good to me, so have fun and you don’t have to write. Alot!

    9. Belena 4ever….who are the J-word and the T-word, that’s right, they’re history!!! It’s all Belena, all-d-time!! Loved the dialogue…looking forward to the activities leading up to breakfast.

    10. Wow, I like the easy flow between Bette and Helena. The feeling I get here is that they want to be exclusive, but none of the complications and stress that they both experienced during their previous relationships. Anyway, I think you find it easier to write a Belena because there is no emotional baggage. Well, did I tell you I really liked the way you potrayed them? :) You’re a great writer, Belena or Tibette. Although I’m a staunch Belener, I think it’s the skill of the fan-fic writer to illustrate how a relationship would work out in spite of their problems. You manage to make each coupling work! That’s pure brilliance, and I hope you keep on writing! ;) Fabulous!

    11. Hey SR, Am loving this irrevent take on the HelBet relationship. You really capture a sense of fun here. There is a playful banter between this pairing hta just seems so right. Enjoying every posting. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.

    12. As many others have said this chapter was great, bye bye Jodi heheh Belena all the way =) Thanks, I love this story…. I hope you are having a great vacation!

    13. Actually, I think it will be a “breakfest”! Great, job as always, Speedy! It’s nice when you have some faithful TiBette fans reading Belena stories like yours because they are just so wonderfully done! I still have to play catch up on a bunch of your stories–a little at a time…

    14. aaaaaaaaaaaaaawwww glad jodi got the heaveho, i can’tt stand her; i do like helena but not so much with bette…never mind tho its your story, keep writing…
