    Forged in Fire: Chapter 11

Having been left home alone, Bette drove to the gallery to work on the upcoming debut for Carmen. She was in her office, reviewing the menu and guest RSVPs when she heard knocking on the front door. She looked up, her brow furrowed.

“Who the hell is that?” she asked under her breath.

She was surprised to see her girlfriend standing outside the door, holding a bag of takeout from The Planet. Bette opened up the door and Tina walked inside.

“What are you doing here?” asked Bette with a smile.

Tina kissed her lover’s lips. “I missed you.”

Bette locked the door and turned back to face her girlfriend. “I mean…how did you know I was here?”

“It’s 2020, Bette. I tracked your location using my phone. I wanted to surprise you.”

The brunette slipped her hands around her lover’s waist. “I’m happy to see you.”

She kissed Tina and took the bag of food from her, leading the way to the conference room. “How was your day, T?”

    “It was.”

Bette grinned at her, pulling food from the bag and placing it on the table. “That bad, huh?”

“Just made me want to come home to you. But alas, you were not home.”

“I needed to get out. Figured I’d get some work done. You hungry yet?” asked Bette.

Tina nodded and they both washed their hands in the bathroom before returning to start their shared meal. Tina had brought chicken salads and slices of carrot cake for dessert. The couple tucked in the food.

    “Hey, where’s Dylan?” asked Tina.

“He is having a sleepover with Dustin.”

    “Dustin?”

“He’s a kid on Dylan’s soccer team. They had a playdate today at the house and then they roped Dustin’s mom into doing a sleepover at their house.”

That’s nice. Do you think he’ll be okay?” asked Tina.

Bette nodded, chewing on a bite of chicken. “I think so. I packed him a pull-up to put on under his pajamas. Just in case. And he’ll call if he needs to be picked up early.”

Tina breathed a sigh of relief. “Good. You did good, Babe.”

Bette chuckled. “See? I can be trusted to act like an adult at times.”

    1. Thank you, it was a good chapter!

Glad that Tina pushed enough and Bette allowed herself to open to her and tell about her problems after Melvin visit.
And Tina stayed and helped Bette with her work – it was nice too.

      • Kind of a fan. I was for a while. But then when all the stuff started w/ Glenn….I stopped watching. It felt like “Torture Porn” to me. I realized I was waaaay too tense. But I will probably pick it up again and finish it at some point.

    2. Michonne.. I like her too. and a lawyer of course what good that did her in the life she now has lol..she is cool and smart.I loved how she used the ones on chains in the beginning to keep herself safe..

anyways we are not here for her are we? lol. thank you for the chappy.. ok Im just going to say what I feel here.

I really am having trouble understanding why Tina went straight for Sidney and not question Bette’s father was there to start with.

“Daddy came by the house this morning. He umm…he wanted to apologize for not supporting my marriage to Sidney,” she said.”

it’s as if they took two steps forward in last chapter and Tina just to two leaps backwards With this statement .”“In what way? Do you – – – Do you miss her, Bette?”” how does she get that Bette misses Sidney?

To mention what Sidney had done was mean. especially seeing Bette crumbing in front of her. Tina seems very weak here. Putting Bette through more shit she don’t need. why not just listen in the first place before jumping to the worse cast scenario. I know Tina needs help herself but why lash out at Bette. she need your ears and support not you dumping more on her. even in the apology Tina seems distant to me. then turns around and gives advice.saying I’m always here for you. Really where were you like two minutes ago.

But in the end they reconnect in a beautiful way. both with their reassurances spoken once again out loud. Ok I’ll shut up now.

      • Completely agree. Tina is still weak and wounded in her own way. And sometimes, what wins out is her insecurity and her own fears, rather than her leading with rationality. She went straight for Sidney instead of listening to Bette. She almost failed to understand just why Melvin’s visit was so triggering for Bette. Though Melvin has been in Bette’s life, he has largely ignored the personal aspects of that life. Choosing to keep his head in the sand rather than accept his daughter as a whole person.

Tina has very little appreciation of this and she struggles to find her footing.

    3. Nice chapter….. I can see Tina jumping to conclusions that Bette might be suffering some anguish about Sidney. Tina is thinking that all the crap of Bette and Sidney’s relationship happened at the end of their 14 year relationship. But, not knowing any better, it’s natural to assume that a majority of their life would have been happy or surely Bette would have ended it. Bette hasn’t talked much about her father to Tina. Their most recent history has been about Sidney and Tina’s family. And as Tina mentioned, she is jealous. She is jealous of the good times that Sidney had with Bette early in their marriage. So, until Tina hears the whole story about what had upset Bette that day, sometime Tina (like Bette) then to starts searching for possibilities which are always based on emotions and not rational thinking. That is just how the human mind works – sometimes it goes for the worst case scenario immediately rather than waiting for the explanation. Fortunately, she stayed in the conversation and then heard what Bette was saying. Relationship are like that sometimes and Bette and Tina are not unusual in their making false assumptions and fears and having irrational ideas. The key is to not act until you know the truth. This was a very healthy discussion between the two. Neither are perfect and each has their own hangups, but if they keep going like this, they will be unbreakable. They are good for one another. They love each other deeply.

      Thank you for this story….

    4. First, thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping this love story going, MTS. “TiBette in the Time of Coronavirus” is a welcome distraction from the grim statistics, heartbreaking stories and infuriating lies and incompetence that bombard us every day. I’m sending you a tight, virus-free, cyber bear hug right now in appreciation of how you continue to entertain us with your writing despite the many challenges in the real world. :D

It was ill-timed for Tina to open up about her insecurity with Sidney while Bette was still reeling from painful memories and conflicting emotions. Bette was also guilty of jumping to conclusion, making baseless accusations and blurting out harsh words in two previous chapters. And like those previous heated confrontations, they ended up with a heart-to-heart talk and a sweet reaffirmation of their deep love and soul connection. I have no doubt that they love one another deeply and will do whatever it takes to stay together and make each other happy for as long as they both shall live.

As for TWD, did you know that Michonne exited the show a few episodes ago? Yep, the show gave one of TWD’s iconic characters such an utterly disappointing send-off episode without any of the series’ few remaining original cast. I used to be a loyal fan too but I lost interest when Negan came to town.

Anyway, stay safe, healthy and creative, MTS! :>

      • Without re-reading the previous stories in this series can I ask – Bette has no memory of the events from her original life, correct? I keep trying to make there be some kind of continuity and I get confused. The Bette in this story is from the time jump right? So what is this Bette’s backstory? I get very confused.

        • This Bette is from the time-jump. Correct. She has no memories from her previous life. HOWEVER, that life didn’t split until she got to UCLA as a freshman. So, everything for her was the same until she got to campus that year. She never roomed with Tina and never met her.

So this version of Bette met Sidney in her freshman year.
          She and Sidney stayed together.
          They were married.
They were separated and getting divorced when Bette met Tina in 2019.
Now Bette & Tina are Together

And this version of Bette never reconciled with her mother.

          hope this helps.

    5. Another great chapter, MTS. Sorry for the dealyed comment. but I’m feeling a little blue.

I like that Tina took Bette’s explanation very personal (and the wrong way) and let her fears resurface. As you wrote, Tina only knew Sidney at her worst, hurting Bette. I can totally understand that out of a gut instinct she would be highly irritated by Bette words and would fear that she has to fight a ghost.
Also I can see why she wouldn’t see Melvin’s visit as something that would stress Bette as it did. I don’t think that she and Bette discussed Bette’s relationship to her father in depth. Would Tina know what Melvin’s apology really ment to Bette?

But our favourite couple will learn out of this. Both of their insecurities about their relationship don’t vanish after one or two honest talks. They need more time together to really get to know each other and solidify their trust in each other.

Like Zhenya I loved Tina helping Bette at work. It’s good that they get to know their partner work personality.

Hoping for another part soon :-)

Going back to my Californian Cabernet Sauvignon now. Actually I’d be in San Fran on vacation right now, preparing for my birthday and proceed to HW for three weeks on Monday. But then there came covid19. I know it’s beyond my control but it makes me sad.

      Cheers stay healthy

      • My dear Kiwi….Never worry about a delay. Your comments are welcome whether they are within 5 minutes or 5 years of posting. I am sorry that you are blue. It’s hard to be anything but right now. But I’m so glad you stopped the party for a bit and hung out with us Tibetters. :)

I hope that California Cab was all that you had hoped it would be. And Happy Early birthday (if it is early). And yes…that COVID19….what a bitch. She is royally messing up plans all across the globe! I mean…it’s kinda ridiculous. And the powerlessness we all feel is very defeating.

I hope you don’t feel bad about feeling sad. Wishing you all the best and sending some cyber cheese to go along with your cab.
