    Flower Power:  Chapter 9

    =========================

“Can it be that it was all so simple then?  – Alan and Marilyn Bergman, The Way We Were

Kit Porter’s baby sister sat cross-legged in a cubed chair slowly sipping coffee.  She was quieter than usual today, more casual than usual today and sadder than usual today. On top of that, the persistent prodding from her older sister was starting to tap dance on her nerves.

“Kit,” Bette warned softly.  “It’s complicated.”

“Fuck that. You’re complicated. The situation is simple,” Kit concluded. “You always had to learn things the hard way didn’t you?”

“Excuse me?” Bette objected.  “Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?”

A hearty laugh bubbled out of Kit.  “Girl, why can’t you say aint?  Ain’t that the pot callin’ the kettle black.”  Kit declared.  “Put some umph in it,”  emphasized the older sister.

“You tell her Kit Porter.”  The giggly voice coming from behind the siblings belonged to an attractive woman with an equally attractive smile.  The striking female kissed Kit sweetly on the cheek before verbally greeting the pair.

“Well, if it isn’t Fine and Finer.”  Beaming eyes remained on Kit since the word “finer” applied to her.

Bette watched the attractive woman closely.  A polite smile appeared when their eyes met.

    “Hi Bette.”

“Alice.”  Bette acknowledged.  Dark brown eyes remained on those of the happy blonde while the happy blonde looked elsewhere.

Kit’s bakery was bustling with morning business.  Soft chatter accompanied orders of croissants and scones, beignets and French toast.  Alice strongly considered having breakfast like she normally did a few times a week, but seeing her ex was more than she could handle right now.

Bette managed to break the silence.  “How are you?”

“I’m good, thanks.  Kit, is my order ready?”

“Yes ma’am,” Kit sang.  The extra dose of sadness in her sister’s eyes didn’t go unnoticed.

Alice happily bee-bopped to the counter while Bette pouted at the brevity of their exchange. Alice looked like a business woman today. She acted like one too. Today must have been Strictly Business day at her school.  Her no-nonsense stride was filled with strength and determination as she rapidly approached her destination.

    1. Hello GreenTea, Thank you for a wonderful chapter is this brilliant tale. It was interesting to replay the past and see the attraction between Bette and Tina play out. Not sure how this will affect the present as Tina is still married and has he son to think about. I do want these two soul mates together but have to think about the damage to other that course of acction might inflict. An innocent child would rather have a satisfied and contented mother living in a gay realtionship than a bitter and unhappy one trying to make a hetero marriage work. Personally think that Tina has to decide what she really wants and then follow that dream. More please. Your Loyal Fan.

    2. WOWZER! Someone always gets hurt when these liaisons occur, Alice is the first victim (indirectly), but I so feel Bette and Tina’s love…like their banter…so real!

    3. Simply complicated, like bitter sweet…kinda opposite but the same, entwined to be one. Loved this combo in this story and I really wished that you officially wrote for the LWord, god,it would be so much better!!Thank you for posting and waiting for more!

    4. I love the flashbacks to when B & T met. It helps explain alot about their current relationship. I wonder if Bette would continue to want Tina if she wasn’t married? You always want what you can’t have, right? I love never knowing where you will take us next in your story telling but I am definately along for the ride! LOL! PS.

    5. Missed you and this wonderful story. I love the connection you have built between them as well as the off the charts passion. Don’t stay away so long.

    6. greenie, greenie…thank you for this beautiful story, so full of humor, sadness, love, loneliness and of course beautiful flowers, who doesn’t love them? it’s time for tina to leave this pathetic excuse for a husband and do something about bette…i don’t wanna see them lonely

    7. Simply wonderful as always GreenTea. Life is complicated and you’ve painted an amazing picture of it with these two women. I’m looking forward to seeing how Tina and Bette work this out.

    8. From the moment I read the title, I thought I knew what this story was all about. Silly me. I don’t know a thing except that you’ve fooled me. And captivated me. Again.

    9. The others are right, this post was sad – but I’ll focus on the positive; the increasing communication between B&T and the fact they don’t worry about their previously set of rules!!! Post soon and have a great weekend :o))

    10. greens, I don’t know where to begin… I’ve had a really crappy week and then the universe provided two messages to let it all go and one of them was your story. Thanks.

    11. Good chapter. Hope Tina will dump her husband soon, because she not happy. She and Bette should be together, they are happy and can’t wait to see more of them. Ok post soon please, thanks!

    12. Not sure how to react to Bette’s emotions. The whole situation is just sad. Hope Alice fine’s someone nice (Dana). What’s happening in Tina’s marriage?

    13. Very complicated. Orchid appears to be frafile, sweet, and a delicate flower that require TLC…yet some grow in the most unforgiving of terrains and bloom into the most beautiful exotic of flowers. Flower Power indeed!

    14. Ah, Bette. She’s messed it up with Alice, and Tina’s still with her clueless man… she needs to find a way out of her loneliness. Love the story, greentea, it’s so amusing and poignant at the same time. Post soon. Thanks

    15. this was wickedly delish. the sounds your words remind me of. the joy of being in love with women *sigh* makes me all the more grateful for coming out, as late as i did. and fuck me into tomorrow, hell yeah!!! loved it angel. thanks.
