    First, Last, & Forever? (Version 2.0 – Chapter 12)

    CHAPTER 12

Lying in bed, contentedly holding her sleeping beauty in her arms, Tina allowed her mind to drift back to the day she decided to tell Bette she wanted to come home.  Their day had started with Tina’s last checkup.  With everything that had been going on, Tina had not had a chance to formally break things off with Helena Peabody.  Their “relationship,” if you could call it that, had been deteriorating for weeks, essentially on a downward spiral that inversely tracked her re-connection with Bette.  Tina was shocked when Helena was waiting for them at Dr. Wilson’s office.  She was even more shocked when Helena had insisted, or more accurately, demanded, that Tina have lunch with Helena and her mother.  Helena had behaved like a petulant child that day, and Tina wanted nothing more of it.  She and Bette had stood their ground against Helena, presenting a united front as they walked hand-in-hand into the medical building.

Tina’s appointment went well, and Dr. Wilson told them it would be safe to have the baby at home.  Bette and Tina returned to Bette’s house, and Bette opened the box containing the birthing tank.  She had looked absolutely deflated at the thought of having to put it together.  Bette was many things; handy was not one of them.  Tina took her first calculated risk, joking that she knew of some lesbians who were good at putting things together.  She didn’t know if Bette would think it was funny, or take it as a slap at the face.  At least she got the desired, self-deprecating retort back from her lover.

“Like carpenters?” Bette had quipped, with a raise of her eyebrows.  Tina apologized, but grinned up at Bette.  It was important that Bette understood that her infidelity was forgiven, but would probably never be forgotten.

“Bette?”  Tina had said softly.  “I’m having a home birth.”

Bette had begun to ramble on in true Bette Porter style about how great it was that Dr. Wilson thought it was safe, and Tina was healthy.  Tina could see that Bette was having a hard time trying to just be Tina’s friend, or date, or whatever it was that they had decided to be other than life partners.  Tina gently interrupted Bette’s rambling.

    1. i CAN SEE WHERE bETTE IS COMING FROM.,but it was her who started it. Remember Tina still can’t call Candace by her name. I would react the same way,and Helena has been rough on Bette and her job and prading Tina all over the place so that Bette could see her with Bette lover on anothers arm. thanks

    2. i don’t think i read that chapter so many times LOL i’m glad tina is going to end things with helena properly, i just hope helena will listen and it won’t create any problems between B&T

    3. Damn, Bette wake up so you can bask in the after glow. While this exposition is necessary to fill in the blanks I kind of want to kick Bette in the head. Tina forgave you for cheating on her. You don’t need to be pissy that she attempted to move on after you pretty much shattered her..and she had nothing. So, if someone is to blame for not being the only woman to lay Tina.. Bette needs to own up a bit. But obviously they work through everything considering the present tense in the story.

    4. I am cracking up over the Betty references… “the particularly annoying girl band that seemed to be popping up everywhere with no explanation.” That was my thought throughout Melvin’s service and during that impromptu round-table discussion. Strange, indeed! As far as Helena goes,I actually felt bad with the way Tina ended things with her. I felt she had genuine feelings for Tina and didn’t deserve to be kicked to the curb so indifferently. Great chapter.

    5. Wow! Powerful chapter which contained alot of elements of emotion. Alot could be said, and has been actually, about Tina’s reaching out to her former lover, but instead I’ll just say that I find it very interesting where you could go with it, as there are SO many options. Hmm…alot comes to mind in this particular chappy, but it’s all good and thought provoking dear, so no worries. Thanks for always managing to fill so many gaps where IC had failed. Bring on the next one!!! Great Stuff.

    6. I can just see Bette stomping off and fair enuff it’s too early in their reunion for her to feel safe with Tina and Helena is her competition…as for the carpenter, I roll my eyes!!!! Lmao. I’m really enjoying your story.

    7. Ooh…pissy, insecure Bette! Not a pretty sight. Indeed she started it all, but she doesn’t have to respond as she has. But she’s human–what a concept! The annoying girl band refs also cracked me up! I do believe Helena had genuine feelings for Tina, but I don’t see that it was a lasting relationship in that Helena was very manipulative and self-serving. So indeed closure must take place, but I don’t think it has to be a “step off, b*tch” sort of thing. Love how you’ve filled in the gaps of what we didn’t see and kept it real with some conflict! It’s only in our fantasies that B & T are lovey-dovey all the time. Just loving this story!

    8. Bette can’t help how she feels, but I have no doubt that she will step up and be the loving supportive partner that Tina knows and loves. Bette knows Tina loves her but sometimes even strong Alpha people get scared and jelous and it makes them turn into bratty petulent children without them being able to do a thing about it. They feel bad afterwards but what’s done is done and can’t be taken back. PPS

    9. Oh I just can’t get enough of this story, it’s just excellent! And believe you me, I definitely want another great NC-17 chappy… so how about some Flowers? Chocolate? Wine? Begging? More praising? What would do the trick?

    10. What a great story…I love the pacing, it seems like they are taking enought time to think about and talk about things this time so they might actually work out this time

    11. So, it appears that Helena didn’t come to visit Tina in that Peabody Hospital bed, =at all=? (H forgot the way over?… H’s Jag is in the shop?…) I believe our Bette can rest easy. – – – And dear Steph, if you need to mention a certain group again, feel free to change the word ‘musicians’ to ‘noisemakers’; we’ll know who you mean.
