April 1999
The sting of the bourbon permeated hotly through Tina’s lips upon contact.
The seemlingly harmless caramel colored liquid engulfed her entire mouth with a seering heat that spread like wild fire.
"Whoa…" Tina almost choked as the initial taste cascaded down her now burning throat. "Wow…" Tina succumed to the cough in her chest, quickly bringing a fist to cover her mouth.
Bette leaned back and smiled, stifling a laugh.
Although the blonde talked a big game, she was really quite sweet and wholesome. The brunette knew right away that bourbon would not agree her…but Tina pushed on anyway, determined to stay on pace with Bette.
"I told you…you have to be ready for it…" Bette raised her palm and gently patted Tina on the back as she continued to battle the stoutness of the liquor.
Tina grasped for her water, pulling quickly on the liquid until the glass emptied completely. She let out a long breath before turning to Bette, who was still smiling triumphantly at Tina.
"Yeah…you’re right…Jesus, that is brutal…how do you drink that stuff?" Tina shook her head, returning the brunette’s warm grin as her breath regained a normal flow.
Bette cocked her eyebrow and squinted a little at Tina, her tone thick. "I love it. I knew the first moment I tasted it I would never like anything better than I do this…"
Tina drew in a silent breath, her skin tingling as the brunette’s words washed over her. She lowered her eyes inconspicuously to determine if her skin produced a visual response…it had. Tina quickly rubbed her arms to try to warm the goosebumps away.
"Let’s get something else…something you like. I can take care of this for you…" Bette offered, trying to once again capture Tina’s fallen eyes. She reached for Tina’s full glass of bourbon and dumped in into her own. Bette motioned for the waitress, gently putting her hand on Tina’s. The soft, comforting touch sent a shock wave of pleasure through Tina…
"What would you like to drink?" The brunette whispered softly.
Tina looked at Bette, her eyes swimming with desire. Bette fought back the urge to grab Tina’s lips in her own as her body was so surprised with heavy weight of Tina’s stare. Tina released her gaze long enough to order a glass of pinot grigio from the fidgeting waitress.

Fire- each word was exquisite…I loved the flirting…I loved the bourbon sharing…I loved that Bette focused on decreasing Tina’s discomfort…I love that Tina is made to confront her ideology. It was simply breathtaking… I can’t wait to see if the nightcap leads to more…and more…PPS
It is fun having Bette and Tina flirting and teasing one another. I am glad that Bette and Tina talked after being potentially busted by Jack. Though I understand how scary it is to come out publicly it also hurts to have someone seem ashamed of something so beautiful. Wonderful writing!
Was I the only one who remembered the hotel? Gold star for me!!! Great continuity fire…ure doing waaay better than Ilene. Uhhh, can I trade in my gold star for another chapter instead?
PS could the drink at the hotel bar please lead to a drink in the hotel room? Which could lead to…sexy time :)
WHAT HOTEL? Is that where T is staying? I forgot. I don’t blame T not wanting to wear other peoples’ labeling of her but do get Bette’s hurt. Didn’t last long tho’, thank goodness. Love this. PPS.
yeah, sorry…that was like, 80 chapters ago…i’m not surprised to learn you forgot! (she’s staying at the four seasons, btw. i’m trying to use real la establishments, save for the bette porter gallery, to give the story some angles…)
Great story. I love the pace, but at the same time it’s killing me :). I think Tina did remarkably well considering it’s her first real lesbian date/experience. Great update!

i also forgot about the hotel… i think its also time for tina to find a place to live… and get her things from eric’s… after their drinks that is… maybe shane has a truck and the girls can help her move…

I think Tina staying at the hotel was actually mentioned about 81 chapters ago (heehee)…and bring on the Four Seasons firestarter.
*glancing at me chilled beer… at the salmon… back at the beer…. salmon… beer…* can’t decide who’s the winner… the beer cools me down… and the salmon heats up the ladies… either very nice… BUT i love the way you charge the conversation with the nuances that make your story so special. thanks fire!
“Mrs. Kennard?!” Tina’s not married, right? Jack just made a slip of the tongue, right? Anyway, I knew it, that shot of bourbon won’t really help Tina because she’s already in heat. It’s like spraying gasoline on a raging bonfire. I loved the banter, the endless teasing and the way they fed each other the same dish was really sweet. They are moving forward, firestarter. And I’m glad that my unfounded fear and anxiety that this relationship would take as long to build as it took to build Rome is now fading fast. I’m glad to be proven wrong! :) Thank you for writing and posting this update, firestarter, and for putting up with all my teasing. :>
