“You know, Kit, this just sounds to me like you’re experiencing the same problems that every other mom and pop establishment in this country is going through. I mean, with the recession coming, thanks of course to George Bush and his neo-conservative politics..”

Kit waved her hand back and forth as if she were playing air violin. “Save the political banter for CSPAN, baby sister, the Planet has survived some fucked up shit in the past. I mean, this is West Hollywood, if anyone is going to be unaffected by a recession it’s y’all, and don’t get it twisted, people are coming in for their coffee, okay, there just isn’t any coffee to give.”

“So what are you going to do, Kit, fight Ivan and that’s going to make all your professional problems go away?”

Kit took pause and thought about that for a few. I mean, Bette was clearly right, it was a stupid plan that was destined to fail. The way she saw it, and the way Tina and Angelica saw it, fighting Ivan would only result in making matters worse for Kit, and the Planet. She thought Kit was just looking for someone to blame for all the hardships that come in uncertain times and about a minute in, Bette could see that gleam in Kit’s eye, that look a person gets when the intellectual light bulb has finally turned itself on, the poise of a person coming to grips with their situation, the internal knowledge that a better plan, hell, a better answer was just out there on the horizon waiting to be grabbed up by the outstretched hand of reason.

But then again, sometimes you just gotta say fuck it to reason.

“Fuck it, I’m kicking the bitches ass. Besides, I already challenged him and he graciously accepted, thank you very much. Ivan is nothing if not a gentleman, you have to admit that.”

Tina sighed and looking over at Bette, said, “Shit.”

Back at Jenny and Shane’s house…

You spent the night looking for Ivan? The two of you? That’s what you did with your Friday night?” Shane slouched in her chair. “Well, yeah, it was actually fun, though, hanging with Kit.” Jenny got up and putting her bowl in the sink, said, “And you volunteered us to drive all the way to San Francisco just so Kit can fight Ivan? Is that what you’re telling us?”

“Yep, that’s pretty much what I’m saying. Oh come on, the both of you, this is Kit we’re talking about. Besides, Alice, you were saying just yesterday how you needed to get away from Tasha for a few days.”

Alice jumped off the counter. “Uh, yeah, Shane, but I didn’t mean San Francisco, I was thinking more like a day at the spa or something…fuck, San Francisco? That’s a hike.” “Well, I’m sure there are spa’s in San Francisco, Alice.” Alice sneered at Jenny and said, “So you’re seriously going?”

“Yes, our friend, Shane, here, has sold me on it. I think it will be fun and if it helps the Planet get back to business as usual, well, then I’m all for it. Besides, I need a change of environment so I can start writing Lez Girls, Deux.”

Jenny walked off toward the bedrooms and when Alice heard the comfort of a door slam, she said, “Okay, if I see any name starting with the letter ‘A’ in fucked up font on her laptop, it’s going up her ass sideways, hear me knockin?”

Shane laughed.
