    Family Women Chapter 2

     -At peace-

Tina is a million miles away; I can see it on her composure. I guess she has a lot to think about; I can’t really help not smiling myself. But my smile disappears quickly when I see the little girl who is eating ice cream beside her; the dark features and the fierce eyes can only belong to one girl, Angelica. I feel the lump in my throat grow—flashbacks of the little baby who I cradled and the warmth of her against my chest will always be with me. Helena must have picked up on the uneasiness I display, “are you okay?” When I turn around and meet her soft eyes, all my worries fly out the window. I nod my head and nuzzle closer to feel her breath on my body. Her hand strokes my back, and when I feel that Dana has climbed onto my lap, my contentment returns.

Peggy, who is the more boyish of the two girls, has really melted Shane’s heart. They are deeply involved in a game on Peggy’s portable PlayStation. The smile that creeps onto my face is vulnerable and easy. Dana while sitting on my lap is trying to have a conversation with Alice, who only manages to stare at her. “You okay?” I mouth over the head of Dana. “I’ll talk to you later,” is the mere response I receive as Dana climbs over to Alice. “I’m going to go pay” I say to Helena, as I stand up. Helena has me all figured out though. We both know Kit won’t let me pay for the food, ever. I simply need the excuse to talk to my big sister.

Kit is busy counting products, but leaves the task when she sees me approach. “Come on, Porter. Join me in my office,” she says in mock seriousness. I smile at the attempt; I’ve been smiling at everything lately. “So, are you staying?” There is an underlying tone to the question that reflects years of hurt. “Yeah, I received the position as Head of the Art Faculty. The kids will start school in a couple of years, so we’ve thought about settling down now.” I find a seat on the old couch that had been there since Kit bought the place.   “How was it seeing Angelica?” Her concerned eyes rest upon me. “Strange.” I find myself surprisingly honest whenever I am with my sister. “I’m having these flashbacks from that time; the feeling of her fingers wrapped around my one finger and her eyes looking up on me. I am so happy now, but that time will always be a part of me.” I stare out the window. “It will always be, but focus on today, sweetie. If it’s any comfort, Tina and Henry are doing a good job of raising her.” Kit intuitively sensed what I wanted to know. “You know what, Kit? That is really good to hear,” I say looking up at the screaming twins who are running towards me. “Mama!!! “ And it seems to me that you are doing just as good; those girls are lovely” Kit says, her eyes having followed mine. Seconds later, I am attacked by the two most precious girls in mine and Helena’s life, and they’re all over me, “Mommy said that we have to thank Aunty Kit for the food.” Dana is the one to keep track of the orders we give. “Okay, girls. Hug Kit goodbye and thank her,” I say setting the girls down. I walk out and say my own farewell to Shane, Alice and the rest of the gang. As I walk out of the Planet I see Tina studying me.

    1. Your story is good, and I read both chapters, but I can not read anymore. Just not and can not get into anything with Bette and Helena as lovers. Sorry!

    2. Aww.. I love it. It really is unfortunate that Bette obviously was denied knowing Angelica, but I love the new family she made for herself with Helena

    3. I’m so happy that Bette is happy and has a family of her own. That Tina is happy and she has taken care of Angie We sometime dont like who our friends are with but can just hope that they are with the ones that loves them. Yes I live B&T but want both to be happy. thanks

    4. I like the B&H pairing and am quite happy that both Bette and Tina were able to move on individually, although it is sad that Bette wasn’t able to be a part of Angelica’s life. Keep up the good work!

    5. Just read both chapters and I’m looking forward to more. Its always nice to read that when it involves Helena and Bette they have both bascially rescued each other. Its a shame that apparantly tina chose not to let Bette be a part of Angelica’s life, but it will be interesting to see how this unfolds now that Bette is back in town and with her own family.

    6. Love this story, You put them together very well, it is sad that Bette wasn’t allowed to be a part of Angelica’s life, but she had a great famil of her own. Looking forward to more!
