    The last chapter – Bette comes home. (And thanks so much for the spotlight! I can’t tell you all how happy I am!!!)

     

    The plane ride seemed to last forever, but Bette tried to be patient, and tolerable to those seated around her. When the plane finally landed, she practically fell over herself to run back into the airport for her bags. She was a mess even then, wheeling her luggage behind her to wave over a taxi, and jump excitedly inside.

    Alice let out another big sigh as she gave Tina a hug. The blonde had been crying non-stop since earlier the previous day, over Bette’s decision to stay so far away from her. Bette hadn’t even been optimistic about keeping some sort of long distance relationship while she was away – she hadn’t even been confident she would return at all.

    “I don’t even know what to do … I feel so lost,” Tina cried on her shoulder just as Shane walked in, carrying some boxes.

    “Are you sure you wanna move out of here, Tina?” Shane asked softly, wondering if perhaps her friend was moving a bit too quickly.

    “Hey! She needs this,” Alice insisted, pulling back to look into Tina’s teary eyes. “She needs a change, okay?” She was talking more to Tina than to Shane, but Alice smiled when Tina nodded. “You just need to take some time. You’ll be okay, TK.”

    Shane shook her head, “It all seems a bit sudden to me … who’s to say things won’t turn around or something?”

    That set Tina off again into another fit of tears, walking into her bedroom with Bette, closing the door behind her. It was the only room she still hadn’t tried to pack away with Alice. She collapsed onto the bed and wept over the memories of her and Bette, wondering how her love could have left her so easily. Had she meant nothing to Bette at all?

    “Great going,” Alice sighed as she passed by Shane. “Now that’s progress.”

    “Hey, I didn’t mean it like that, Al.”

    “Do you know what Bette did to her? Do you have any idea how that would feel to be abandoned by the woman you love?” Alice looked at Shane for a moment and threw her hands up, exasperated. “Of course you don’t! You’re the damn Bette in every situation!”

    “That’s not fair, Al,” Shane laughed, walking after her out of the apartment to the stairs. She grabbed another box on the way to be of some help as they both jogged down the stairs. “I do want to protect Tina. I think it’s shitty what Bette did, I do. I just … I think she might need some more time to herself before we start packing all her shit in boxes, you know?”
