    Author Notes:

    This is what i would call some harsh realizations and a late night dinner and a movie.

    The silence between the two was thunderous. Tina was lost in her thoughts of today’s escapades. While Bette’s face was clearly showing concern and worry. Tina shook herself from her thoughts and looked down at Bette who was now rubbing her ankle with no purpose. With her foot she pushed Bette’s hands and asked “what’s wrong baby?”

     

    “Huh?”

     

    “I said, what’s wrong? You look like you’ve got the weight of the world on your mind.”

     

    “Oh, um… I’m just thinking, bout some stuff.” Bette replied not wanting to drag Tina down with her sad thoughts.

     

    “Stuff like what? I know you, remember, so I know it’s bout me somehow. So out with it Porter.” Tina said smiling and really concerned about what would make Bette want to conceal her feelings from her.

     

    Bette took in a big breath and released it hating herself for letting her mind get her in this predicament.” I was thinking about the future… about the end of the summer.” As soon as she ended the sentence Tina’s body clenched as she prepared herself for what was going to be an emotional conversation.

    “Mmkay. So what’s on your mind?”

     

    “I was thinking about us. What’s going to happen to us? I was thinking about so many things, like maybe I could transfer to Berkeley to be closer to you. But then I was thinking about my family and whether or not that would be good for them. Or whether or not…”

     

    “What?” Tina asked rubbing Bette’s leg knowing she was having trouble expressing herself.

     

    “Whether or not you want me there. If maybe you think this is some kind of summer time love you’ll treasure but eventually you’ll forget about over time. And I’ll just be that girl from Georgia you think about from time to time.”

     

    “Wow…” Tina sat up and ran her hand through her hair as she was still at a loss for words. ” you know sometimes when you’re asleep I sit up and think about the same thing. About whether or not you’ll still want me after the summer is over. And should I ask for more of you after the summer. But the one question that comes to mind is will you be willing to give me more after this summer? I don’t know if that makes sense but it’s what keeps me up at night.”

    4. This is so sweet and sad at the same time. It’s true we all just live in the moment no matter how much we plan. I’m glad these girls have enough sense to enjoy what God had given them. the memories will have to last so they may as well creat a lot of them. I just love the phrase “how sexy Tina was in just a shirt and her smile” what a vision. Thanks
