Empty – Chapter 5
Previously…
It’s okay, babe you don’t
have to wake up yet. Dana whispered, hoping that she hadn’t completely
woken her girlfriend. Go back to sleep, Al I’ve got some errands to
run meet you at the Planet for brunch? she suggested quietly. The
only answer she got was a moan as Alice turned back around, facing away
from the sunlit blinds, and burrowing under an array of pink pillows
and sheets, completely content to sleep the morning away. Dana got up
and started to get ready, satisfied that Alice would know where to find
her later. As she walked into the bathroom, Dana took one last glance
at her sleeping girlfriend.
*So ***** cute.*
***
Shane walked into the Planet, coolly twirling her keys and shades in
her hands as she searched around the over-crowded cafe. She spotted a
familiar head of curly brown hair. Shane trudged over, nodding at
someone behind the bar for a triple espresso, and plopped down onto the
empty couch in front of Dana.
“You better have some crazy-***** good reason for dragging me here before
10a.m., Dane…” Shane mumbled into the hood of the sweater she
presently hid under. “Brunch isn’t until eleven, yknow that, right? I
mean, why–”
“I’m falling in love with her.” Dana blurted out, once again cutting
off her question before she finished. Shane slowly lifted her hood and
looked at the athlete for the first time since she sat down. Okay, not
quite the look youd expect after hearing a sentence like that! Dana
looked disconcerted and unsure. She sat on her chair with both hands
grasping the armrest. Observing her seated position and the untouched
latte on the table, Shane guessed that Dana must’ve been sitting like
this since she got here. “I’m falling in love with her.” She repeated,
looking around the Planet, trying to find an anchor for her thoughts.
Dana looked at the tables and people around them –nothing. She looked
towards the bar and the door –nothing. She looked at Shane, having
forgotten for a moment that she was there. –noth- wait… Shane was
wearing one of Alice’s shirts that she’d forgotten to return. It was
one of those rock band memorabilia type t-shirts. Just a plain black
tee with the word “GUSH” emblazoned on it with sequins.
Dana’s thoughts flashed back to waking up that morning and her thoughts
about Alice. How she felt so vulnerable, so real and so naked with
Alice …and how it felt right, somehow. Scary… but right.
