    Different Direction 7

Tina was completely frozen. They had never spoken about this and it was tearing her up inside to be hearing it right now.

"And you know what Tina!? She was also fucking amazing!!"

Before Tina even knew what she was doing, her right hand crashed into Bette’s left cheek in a painful smack.

Everything was silent around them. Bette was breathing heavily. She still had her face turned to the right after the smack, her eyes closed shut. Her cheek had instantly turned bright red and the pain was throbbing immensely. The only thing that was going through her mind was all they have ever gone through together. How they shared everything together and how happy they once were. She just wanted to know how they had gotten to this point.

Both women were frozen. A deep sadness taken over at realizing how bad they were hurting each other.

Tina was completely shocked and horrified at what she had just done. She never wanted to hit Bette, but she just couldn’t handle what Bette was saying and something inside her snapped. She had no right to hit her after she had done the same thing to her and behaved even worse, so she automatically regretted it.

"I’m…I’m sorry."  Tina says with a deep sound of remorse, tears streaming down her face.

Bette looks up slowly to meet Tina’s gaze with tears also erupting from her eyes.

"I..I didn’t mean to…I just…I…I’m so sorry." Tina says fumbling with every word.

Bette continued to stare at Tina with a deep sadness in her eyes and Tina noticed something she had never noticed in Bette.

As she stared into those deep brown eyes, she noticed something was different. Something had changed in those eyes that always exploded nothing but love and kindness. A light had went out inside those eyes and right there she realized that something had been broken between them. And maybe it could never be fixed.

"I’m done Tina." Bette whispers with pure sadness then walks away.

Tina didn’t bother to go after Bette this time. She never felt so far away from her as she did right now. Even when they had been separated she still had felt a connection with Bette. She had always felt really deep inside that no matter what the circumstance, they would always have a connection that would bring them back together. But this time she didn’t feel anything and she knew something had changed between them forever.

    THE END

    1. I like the ending as is. We all love a story where Bette and Tina are together and live happily ever after. But your “different direction” was great. It took B&T about 3 seasons to get back together. Maybe, they can at some point move past this and be together again. Who knows? But, I love this story as it is. I wouldn’t have wanted to read it any other way. Good job!

    2. That was a powerful little tale you told. Despite being a Tibetter, I do not think you should force a happy ending. The way you left it was appropriate in light of the circumstances. In real life, people break up and don’t get back together. That is certainly the different direction you took here and I applaud u for it! Great writing.

    3. You know, as sad as this story was, I liked it. A very different take on things. It was a nice change to the usual happy endings. Don’t get me wrong, I love them, but life doesn’t always have them. Thanks for the story.

    4. I really don’t believe this. No attempt to try and repair the damage. And where was Angelica during all this, she had been at home in bed. And no mention of her with both of them storming around and out of the house. I thought surely you would have one of them remember the baby and how all this would affect her. That ending was no resolution of the situation that had ensued.

    5. Well! That’s an ending all right. And after all that they said and did in that fight, perhaps the only possible ending, at that. Thanks for writing the story! cheers :)

    6. lol…i am so not believing this is the end. it can’t be…you have an obligation here to continue (unless you have been sent from the other side) or you are IC in disguise. love your writing though. pps

    7. what a story… but i do believe where there is a spark… there is a fire… and with bette and tina… hell its an inferno… but you were right, good place to end this story… thx

    8. This was a brave and powerful storyline to tackle and I think you did it justice with great writing and an honest depiction of their relationship. I think sometimes our view of the Bette and Tina relationship is clouded by the absolutely amazing portrayal of the characters and the genuine chemistry and appeal of the actresses that played them. Take that away and you can see how truly dysfunctional their relationship was and maybe getting back together wasn’t the best outcome. I have so many thoughts about this that if I was to express them all my comments would certainly be longer than this last chapter and possibly the entire story but I think you are used to that from me anyway so why stop now. :-)I agree that this was a good place to end it and maybe given time and inspiration you will follow-up with an epilogue. Tina went too far in her words and actions and her sole purpose was to hurt Bette but what she ended up doing was exposing herself. What she saw in Bette’s eyes and what she feels as a loss of their connection is that she can’t hide behind the fa&#231ade any longer because Bette isn’t buying into it. She desecrated their home by bringing Henry into their bedroom, she denied her daughter (when she didn’t correct the people that assumed Angie was adopted); she denied Bette’s place as Angie’s other mother (when she wanted to get with Josh Becker). She used sex and Bette’s weakness for her to embark on an affair and personally I think that is ALL she wanted from Bette in S5. She said it very plainly in the stir fry love scene “I just want to “F” you”. Bette was in love and wanted her family back; Tina was in lust and wanted her lover back. That was evidenced by the fact that once Bette got with Tina she pulled away from Jodi but Tina on the other hand was still pursuing Sam. There were also a lot of parallels in S6 that were in S2/S3 when things went so wrong between them that it was inevitable that they were doomed to fall apart again in the future had the show continued. Similar to Tina inseminating herself it appeared that she made the sole decision to adopt the second child instead of getting Bette’s input; the adoption not going through was parallel to the miscarriage; Bette was virtually unemployed and Tina was the breadwinner (or at least making more money) same scenario as S3; the introduction of Kelly and Sam was akin to the introduction of Helena and Candace. The affair: Bette unhappy in her relationship with Jodi and instead of ending it she found solace in the affair with Tina but the guilt was still there. Thank you for this story and for giving new insight and perspective to the dark side of the Bette and Tina relationship that is hardly ever explored.

    9. Well for once I agree with a not so happy ending for Tibette, a lot if tines I.felt Bette should’ve gave up on Tina being that it seems that it was Bette who would always.make sacrifice to be with Tina and give her whatever she wanted, and follow her and be bullied by her and brought down by her until Tina felt she was ready for Bette to stop hurting, yes Bette cheated but she respected Tina enough not to being Candace in their home, as Tina fucked Henry right in their bedroom with their daughter there…damn.this was powerful and heartbreaking no words to describe either one pain….please come back and follow up
