Dawn of a new day
“No one is accusing you of anything Helena. We’ve just heard some very disturbing information about my daughter and this Jodi person and we’re just trying to get the facts. Now please tell us what Kelly told you about Jodi in as much detail as you can remember.” Martha interjected falling naturally into the good cop to Peggy’s bad cop routine. She didn’t want Helena shutting down if she had integral information.
Helena calmed down and recalled the conversation she’d had with Kelly at the nightclub in London. “Kelly just said that Jodi was an artist that she’d met recently. She mentioned that Bette and Jodi dated briefly and that Jodi was bitter about Bette not helping with her career.”
“She said Bette and Jodi dated? Nothing more? Are you sure?” Peggy wanted to know specifically if Kelly knew about the rape which apparently she didn’t or at least she didn’t confide that information to Helena. Jodi would hang for her brutality towards Bette but so far it appeared that she’d acted alone.
“I don’t remember word for word mother. I’d been drinking and it was so long ago but yes. I’m pretty sure that was it. They dated and Jodi wanted Bette to help advance her career. Kelly didn’t know exactly what happened but she said Jodi blamed Bette for blackballing her. She couldn’t get anyone to take her work seriously. She said she was holding a bigger grudge than Kelly.”
“And what exactly was Kelly’s grudge against Bette? What did Kelly say about her own relationship with Bette?” Martha wondered if Kelly’s version would match Bette’s.
“She told me they had been best friends in college and had a falling out. She said she wanted more than friendship and Bette rejected her.”
“She told you that ‘she’ wanted more than friendship not Bette? You’re sure.” This would be an important fact in the defamation suit.
“Yes. Why do you keep asking me if I’m sure of what I heard?” Helena asked for the first time noticing that both Peggy and Martha were taking notes.
“We told you dear. We’re trying to corroborate some facts. Just bear with us. Now you said Kelly was also holding a grudge against Bette?” Kelly had obviously confided in Helena more than she ever did to her mother.

I was just completing and sending my comment from the last chapter when I discovered this new chapter. So happy that Bette told Tina about her history. It is important that they have nothing between that would affect their lives in the future. Its great that Tina is mature enough and sure of herself to understand all that has transpired in Bettes’ life and still be able to love and share in their love and future plans. All these negative things have changed and colored Bettes’ life in a significant way and now Tina understands the nuances that makes Bette the woman that she has become yet still love her to the bone. Wonderful chapter. Thanks for posting.
Also happy that helena seems to have redeemed herself with her mother. I just hope she carries through and not warn those two hellish bitches of their impending doom. Can hardly wait to see what happens next. Enjoying these chapters so much. Thanks.
Dang BAT!! It’s hard trying to catch up with your story as you post faster than I can read your chapters but you are doing such an excellent job even if I haven’t commented in a few chapters!
I love that Bette is fully opening up and trusting Tina enough to share her history with Jodi as it gives Tina a better understanding of how that has been a part of what has shaped Bette into the woman she is. I love how you have Tina so supportive of Bette and sure of where she is in Bette’s life now. Helena seems to be showing some redeeming qualities and that’s good to see and of course I just love your Peggy in this story. Kelly and Jodi really don’t stand a chance with Peggy looking out for things
Thanks BAT – Loved it!
What a great chapter, thank you:
for taking the Peggy/Helena relationship to a better level and expanding their characters
for strengthening Bette/Tina’s relationship by Bette trusting the full story and Tina showing such strength and support
Beautifully written and great storytelling as always look forward to your next post.
Just wanted to tell you that I am still reading but I didn’t comment because I read this story before and remember especially this part of the story. So not to give anything away I am staying away from commenting but know I always follow your exceptional writing.
Bat, it was a great chapter. you bring together miraculously. I loved the part where Peggy and Martha “interrogation led Helena” :D
It was really great to see that Helena honestly told the story, and she regretted what she had done. the change in the behavior of Helena is the most positive thing for me. I hope to stay that way!
I’m very glad to Bette, was able to honestly say Tina, what did Jodie. Tina supportive, loving and compassionate behavior was the best.
Overall, it was a wonderful chapter.
I am lost, it’s hard to comment when i read the comments from the others, i agree with all of them.
I have read this story before but can’t remember everything, so for me it is so good as new.
You are a fantastic writer and i love this story.
Thank you for the quick updates!
Thanks BAT, it was a profound chapter and so well written. I loved the way you handled the conversation between Helena and the two moms and how mature she had become in being honest with herself and Peggy. Sometimes words do need to be said in order for healing to take place.
I also love the place where Tina and Bette are in their relationship in being open and honest with one another. Relationships are hard and do take lots of work to be the best they can be. I have a good feeling that Bette and Tina are well on their way to that kind of relationship.
Thanks for this amazing story.
Great chapter. Once again you have captured the essences of human connectivity through your choice of words.
So glad Bette told Tina everything and that Helena came clean too. Thanks so much for the two updates. Loved them
