Chapter 3- Flask of Fear

Alex was in her plain white t-shirt and boxers, laying on the couch. Her and her mom had just moved into the new apartment and had spent all day yesterday moving what little stuff they had in with all the new stuff. The building had a gym, a pool as well as tennis, racquetball and basketball courts. It was a long day yesterday and after sleeping in until noon, Alex came out and collapsed on the couch to watch cartoons. Her mom was still in bed.

She watched the animation bounce around the screen, being chased then falling off a cliff and laughed, sticking her hand back into the back of Cheetos when her mom walked into the room, half asleep. She stumbled over to the couch and moved Alex’s feet so she could take a seat.

Alex: Morning ma.

Shane yawned and stretched.

Shane: What time is it?

Alex shrugged and looked at her watch.

Alex: 2:30

Alex took another cheese puff and threw it in her mouth.

Shane: You shouldn’t be eating those this early.

Alex looked over at her.

Shane: Gimme ‘em

Alex reluctantly handed them over to Shane who took a handful and stuffed them in her mouth. Alex laughed.

Alex: Now you’re like three quarters of my friends parents.

Shane smiled with a mouthful of Cheetos.

Shane: Hypocritical?

Alex nodded and took a handful for herself.

Shane: What are you gonna do today?

Alex: Grandpa’s coming over, don’t you remember? He should be here any…

Gabe: How’s my grandbaby?

Alex jumped up and ran to give him a hug.

Shane: Hey Dad.

Gabe: How you doin’ kid? Nice place.

Shane: Thanks.

Gabe: Alex do you always answer the door in your underwear?

Alex: Usually.

Gabe laughed.

Gabe: Well I don’t think that the Sparks really care but the camp coordinator might.

Shane: Oh right, the LA Sparks clinic’s today.

Gabe: You didn’t have anything planned with her did you?

Shane: No.

Gabe: Good, because I hear there are gonna be a great deal of scouts there.
