Coming up for air – part thirty seven
“You wanna know something?” Bette asked in a hushed voice.
“What, baby?”
“I still feel something is missing when I look at my own hands…. I still feel naked without your ring…”
“Mmmm, I know the feeling… When I took off your ring… and left it here… there have been so many times when I regretted that. I can’t count the times I wished I could have at least looked at it, held it in my hand… maybe even felt what it was like to wear it again….” Tina whispered and kissed Bette’s naked shoulder.
“… I still have the rings, T….”
“Where? …. Here?” Tina asked, not knowing if she wanted to see those rings again.
“Yes… right here in the nightstand…” Bette said rolled over Tina to get to the nightstand. She pulled out a small box and returned to her place beside Tina.
“Do you want to take a look at them?”
“Do you?” Tina asked without breathing.
“I’ve looked at these rings a thousand times, T…” Bette said and got up on her elbow to look at Tina. Even though only a faint moonlight penetrated the drapes, Tina’s eyes were shining in the darkness.
“Are you okay, T? I can put these away if you don’t want to see them…”
“No, it’s… it’s fine, baby…” Tina said and put her hand against Bette’s cheek, “You’ve looked at them a thousand times, huh?”
Bette leant into Tina’s hand nodding.
“When did you stop wearing your ring?” Tina said and slipped her left leg in between Bette’s as she turned towards her.
“I took it off after the first time I saw you with Helena…”
“Because you gave up on us…?”
“No… it just made me so angry to see you with her that I had to let the ring go… I put it in the box with your ring and kept it here by the bed… I guess I couldn’t let it go completely… I still looked at them daily…”
Tina took the box from Bette’s hand and opened it. Bette could tell Tina’s expression softened as she took in the rings. She pulled her own ring out and caressed the cold metal.
“What do you think, baby… should we keep the old rings?” Tina asked and looked up at Bette.
“I don’t know… we don’t have to decide now… I guess we shouldn’t wear wedding rings as long as we’re not married… we have time to find out what feels right…”
Tina let the ring slip down her finger. She had to wiggle it a little to make it fit. She held out her hand, the ring shimmering in the moonlight. Tina’s heart was beating like crazy in her chest as she looked at her hand.
Bette looked from Tina’s hand to her face. “It doesn’t feel right does it?” she whispered.
“… I don’t know…” Tina said, shaking her head a little.
Bette slipped on her own ring and held out her hand next to Tina’s. “Even though the rings are beautiful… I think they look like something from a different time…” Bette said and let her fingertips run down Tina’s fingers.
Tina nodded, “I agree… “
Bette took Tina’s hand, “this time I’m the one who takes off your ring…. and soon I’ll replace it with a new one….” she whispered and slipped off Tina’s ring.
Tina did the same for Bette. She kissed the place where her ring had been, before she put it back in the box.
Bette closed the box and once again took Tina’s hand, their fingers entwining with familiarity.
“Maybe the rings aren’t right anymore but our hands still fit…” Bette said with a little smile.
“They fit perfectly…” Tina said and brought their hands to her lips.

Thanks for sharing your story. Yes, this Tina has committed and Bette’s smile should be blinding. Tina has agreed to live with Bette and in their home, bravo. I like your Tina and dislike the circus IC has sent her Tina on for 3 seasons. Hopefully IC will bring hers home too as you’ve done.
I so love the way you write. You can feel the love Bette and Tina have for each other. It is nice to see that Bette will be moving in with Tina. That should be fun. Thank you PPS
awe…mushy and sentimental. sweet!! time for shopping and they can do a little toy shopping too. rmao
I was so pleased to see this chapter, I had a goofy grin on, much like Bette’s, for most of the way through… I’d had one of the worst days *ever*, and I could literally feel my blood pressure decreasing (well, there was a pleasant spike or two in the old pulse rate after B & T did a bit of dancing in the dark… *ahem*) as I read the chapter, right from the first word of your author’s notes… by the end of the chapter, the goofiness turned to straight up mushy euphoria, which is likely a good thing. I’ve gone from stressed out to all calm and serene now; I want to like, cuddle puppies and kittens and sing like one of the von Trapps… Well, I probably shouldn’t sing. Ever. But still, the power of your pen (or, rather, keyboard) is awesome. I just totally adore this story, anker. It’s sweet in all the right spots, brings the heat when it’s needed, and the emotions and dialogue, well, they’re always spot on. Thanks, anker.
Oooooooooooo a post – how on earth do you have time for that right now, I thought you were VERY busy wink wink LOL. Well….I’ll have more to say when I’ve read it, but will look closely for the little hint :o)) Say hi to you know who. xx
oh wow you out did yourself gyrl!!!!! I fall in-love with this couple everytime I read you….I’m planning to go away Friday was gonna be Wed but!!!!…do you think you could post again so when I get home Monday I’ll have this to read?…I’m going to do my nominations today!!!!!Thank you again, that was such a special chapter…big smile.
Perfect the rings might not be perfect but the hands and body still fit/ thanks
Absolutely beautiful, I think the new rings will symbolize a new beginning for tibette. Thank you for a beautiful chapter, sweetie!
The house hunting is not a fun idea unless you really want to move or you have to move. With today’s cost maybe living in a cave is best. Tina’s comments about the other houses was in keeping with the new B&T. Instead of throwing everything away add to it to make it better. The remodeling idea is perfect and living in Tina’s place until it is completed it ideal. Living in a place that is being remodeled is not fun. The rings do bring up different aspects of their life together. In my mind it is not because of the affair that the rings no longer fit but the growth that both have gone through that would require new rings. New rings for a new beginning.
Again so glad to see your post. Love this story and love that they are keeping the house.
Was very surprised, but happy to see that you posted. I guess since she was occupied with visiting her parents I won’t hold it against you…like I ever would anyhow! Glad to see B&T talking and teasing each other…Oh and of course loving each other. Thanks my friend for this pleasant surprise!
Hey my friend, I was lookin’ for my Sunday Anker fix ! **is that wrong that I won’t even let up on Easter? LOL!*** I laughed at your golf comment. The best part of that game is driving the golf cart! LOL! I agree with Bette on the “cute” comment. Smoldering Hot = Bette. Cute = Dana. Any questions? LOL! I loved the way these two talked through the home remodel, wearing their old rings and they came to a decision without having an argument. B & T are finally having a relationship where they put the wants and needs of the other in front of their own. What could be better than that? I did enjoy the last line of the story that said, “Maybe the rings aren’t right anymore but our hands still fit…” Bette said with a little smile. “They fit perfectly…” Tina said and brought their hands to her lips. Absolutely Beautiful. Thanks Anker. PS. Ciao.
What a fantastic chapter. Can’t say enough about your skilled ability to write and keep me captivated from start to finish and then wanting more…Delighted to see B&T communicating and expressing them self, can’t wait to see whats ahead for this two…Please post soon.
Your writing of the characters is so well rounded…the passionate and ethereal along with the mundane. Perfect. Thank you for taking the time and expending the effort in making personal shout-outs. They are so appreciated. Let’s continue w/this journey. PPS.
awesome and the ending of the chapter was just beautiful
With a little lump still in my throat I salute you and your writing, I am really enjoying this story.
OMG Anker that was brilliant writing! Just brilliant. I don’t know what else to say. Please keep knocking me of my seat…you are sooooo talented.

Oh so exquisitely done! Thanks anker :)
Hey Anker, I loved the genuine love and romance in your words. This latest chapter shwon how wonderful live can be when Bette and Tina discuss their worries and thoughts with one another. The decision to remodelled the house was made together. They discused it and then came to a rational decision as the best way forward. Their night of love making was the perfect finale. Sweeet to see them talking about their old rigns and choosing a path together to reunite their souls and lives with new rings. These will symbolize the lessons learnt and provide a tempate for their future. Thank you so much for this afternoon delight. Your Loyal Fan.
Hi, Anker! Just want to mention your comments are some of the most personal and sincere on the site. I even read the ones not left for me…nosy, I know! Loved this chapter and that dynamic between B/T that you portray so well. Tina manipulating Bette (when it’s in a good way)is always fun to read, and so is watching Bette trying to make sure she’s got the signals right. I’m glad Tina has changed her mind about the house, and that Bette was wise enough to agree to Tina’s living arrangements during the renovation. You really know how to write both chatacters equally well and always strike a good balance. Thanks! Have a great week!
Pouting, sulking, you name it. And yes… if the BP is a member, doesn’t matter what the club is, I’m THERE. I can have a problem with being optimistic, but love it anyway. It works, I swear. Seems to me that B&T were taking turns with grumpy and sulking… page from my book, I guess. LOL I must say, I’m pretty glad they decided to stay in their house. Such a darned nice house it is, at that. You know, I think YOU’RE the romantic around here… *sigh* The hands still fit, for sure.
Hey L, I will try again LOL, but I seriously don’t know what happened. About your author note to me – why is it a problem that you get further away from the ending???? I don’t see a problem in that!!! LOL. It’s okay you breezed by their trip (cos you are the writer and calling the shots here….although I would like to do that LOL), just felt I had to mention it :o)) About the post, this goofy Bette is so adorable, sweet enough to eat….eh did I just say that!!!! I love the idea about remodeling the house and I think Bette will be happy not to live in the mess while they’re doing it…eh the remodeling I mean…I’m sure Tina will make her see that. And that last scene awwwwww so cute, loved it all mate – only problem, I want more and I want it now LOL xx….oh BTW thanks for the little “name thing”, made me feel special :o))
Good chapter and perfect!
