Coming up for air – part thirty eight

Tina had just finished up a workshop, when her new co-worker Alisha came up to her desk.
“Someone is at the door asking for you Tina… and he’s gorgeous…. oh my god… why haven’t you told me about him?”
“Charlie?” Tina asked looking up from her computer with an absentminded look on her face.
“Yes, Charlie something. Are you dating him?” Alisha asked.
Tina let out a laugh, “I know you’re new here… so you couldn’t possibly know this, but my sweetheart is far better looking than Charlie…”
“Really? I find that hard to believe… why haven’t we seen your fella around here?”
    “Because I don’t have a fella… I have a girlfriend… “
“You’re gay?” Alisha exclaimed in disbelief.
“Yes, I am… and so is Charlie by the way… and speaking of Charlie, will you excuse me…” Tina said and went to the main entrance.

After Tina and Charlie finished the tour of the Center of Social Services they went to a little café around the corner.

“I have great news…” Charlie said when they sat down.
    “Yeah?”
“We’ve just been told that we’ve been cleared for the adoption…”
    “Oh Charlie, that’s great…”
    “Yeah it is… we’re both so relieved…”
“So what happens next?” Tina said and put her hand on Charlie’s forearm, squeezing it gently.
“Well, if all goes well we will be paired with a child within the next three months… and after that it’ll probably be another three months before we can go to China and pick her up… it’s most likely going to be a girl,” Charlie explained with glistening eyes.
“You’re going to have a daughter… wow, congratulations… how is Jeremy reacting to the news?”
“He’s sort of all over the place… ecstatically happy one minute, scared out of his mind the next… up until now this process has been all in our heads… but from now on it’s real. We’re going to be parents… it still feels a little surreal…”
“Mmm, I can imagine… you just have to take it one step at a time… try not to get completely overwhelmed… although that can be difficult, I know…” Tina said, remembering how she felt once she got pregnant.

“So how about you, Tina? Jeremy told me Bette moved in with you…”
“She did… just until the renovation of the house is finished. If everything goes according to plan we’ll move into the house around Christmas…”
“You’re adding a bedroom… could it be a nursery?” Charlie said, tilting his head a little.
“… it could be a nursery, yes…” Tina said and looked down.
    “Are you okay, Tina?”
“Yeah, I’m fine… We haven’t discussed ‘the baby issue’ yet… well, we’ve touched upon the subject, but we haven’t really gone all the way…”
“’The baby issue’… why do you put it like that…? It’s something that you both want, right?”
“Yes, this time around I really believe it is. But there’s so much residual hurt and anger connected to the time when we tried to get pregnant… we’ fell apart during those years… I’m just scared of what this discussion is going to do to us…”
“You’re different people today, Tina… and as a couple you’re in a better place at this point. Maybe it won’t be as bad as you think… either way it’s a discussion you need to have. Don’t skip past the hard stuff… it’ll always come back to haunt you…”
“I know… and we can’t rely on the decisions we made back then, cause they might not apply anymore…”
“No, they may not. But remember you don’t have to do it all in one setting… you can take it little by little…”
“Have you met Bette?” Tina said with a wry laugh, “there’s hardly any little by little, half way, or holding back with her…”
Charlie laughed, “and I’m guessing that’s part of why you love her so much…”
    “Mmmm…” Tina smiled.
    “It’s not?”
    “Yes, it is… I love Bette’s passion and persistence…”
    “But….?”
“No buts… You’re right… we might as well start talking about it…”

    1. Great update. They’ll work it out. So glad Bette stepped up to reassure Tina about having a baby, and if she can’t Bette will do it. Also can’t wait for Tina’s new assistant to meet Bette since she thought Charlie was so hot.

    2. I am so glad they took the time and talked it out a little. Bette having a baby that to me would be HOT!!!! I can not wait to see Tina’s assistant meet Bette. Thanks I Love it. PPVS

    3. Heeeeey sweetie – looks like I’m #4…not bad for a slowpoke eh!! LOL. I’m really sorry for my words causing you pain, you know that wasn’t my intention :o(( Back soon….

    4. Nothing boring in the least about this chapter. In fact, I’m using all my newly made-up authority to declare a new law: Henceforth, the word “boring” and any other words used to describe any post proffered by you, the author, (hereby referred to as “anker”) must remain at a distance of 1 mile (1.61 km) from each other at all times. Any infractions to this restraining order by anker will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of jp’s law, and will be punishable by listening to me sing every show tune I know, off key, with all the wrong lyrics. Ha! We understand each other now, yes? Yes. ;) Anyhow, back to the chapter: That was a talk B & T needed to have, and it went pretty well, considering. Not having a child with Jeremy and Charlie is probably for the best, 4 parents *can* be too many. Heck, for some people, 2 is too many. Now, they just have to go through the headache of finding a donor… shame about Marcus, but removing his nutty girlfriend from the mix, even though she was peripheral, is a really good idea. I have every faith they’ll find the perfect donor, and they won’t even have to throw a party to find him. Excellent as always, anker. Thank you!

    5. I’m baaaaack, damn I’m fast today :o)) How on earth can you even think your writing is boring????? A brilliant post, as always! And me, a naughty girl….you haven’t seen half yet LOL, I’ll try to do my comments ‘lækre’ in the future….I love when you call them that, it’s so damn funny LOL. Yehaaa….I’m doing my happy dance here, cos you said IT….you know the favourite reader part :o)) Great post, so good to see you back in the saddle again mate xx

    6. Hey, Anker, quite a variety of issues brought up this week! Had to laugh at the tidiness difference and their perspectives. Had to wince when I think that Tina didn’t contact Bette when Melvin died. I know he wasn’t exactly a prince to her, but she had to know that his passing would rip a hole in Bette’s heart – especially after she cared for him in her home. Maybe Tina hasn’t experienced that type of loss yet. Too bad about Marcus’ sperm, but good decision not to go with someone too close as the donor. Tina’s insecurity here is easy to understand and Bette definitely stepped up to be reassuring. Looking forward to AlphaBette. I’m probably in the minority, but hope you don’t rush the kids/marriage thing. You make getting there so riveting! Of course, you were missed last week, but I hear it’s good to leave your public wanting more!

    7. Just to let you know that this weekend I will be taking time to re-read this story in its entirety….just because. Comment or no comments you can count on me to be reading anything you write.

    8. Okay… did the closet explode or something?” how funny is that!!!! that really made me chuckle! I could really picture that scene in my head….brilliant chapter! Love it!

    9. this was far from being boring and i dont think any of your stuff could be call boring.im glad they had the talk finally so they both are on the same page so to speak.p.p.s.

    10. Yes, the majority rules here…your writing could never be boring. They really needed to have that talk and Bette did come through big time by saying she would have their baby if needed. I am great, but I have moved up to being on cloud ten! LOL Can’t wait to hear from you my friend, but I have patience knowing you were busy. Thanks anker, hope you know I feel the same.

    11. You were definately missed last week, but you more than made up for that with 3 pages on this chapter. Tina didn’t call Bette when her dad died? OUCH! I love they way these two banter back and forth. It brings so much life to the story and helps me to actually visualize B & T having their discussions. Bette reassurance that she will carry their baby if Tina can’t, caught me off guard. She was always so ALPHA. I guess our little girl is growing up!.***wiping tears with tissue***LOL! No need to thank me for the quote. It was my pleasure. Thanks for the update. Hugs for you my friend.

    12. The baby talk was very important to both of them. It ment that they were taking the step to really getting back together. It was the death of their unborn son that seemed to really start the ball rolling that inabled their relationship to falter. Both were questioning whether they could be good parents and whether the other really loved her. With the baby talk they were able to get some of that out in the air and start to build a new life together.

    13. The story is just wonderful, I just Love your Tina & Bette they are just soo open with each other, you are an amazing writer and you keep us hanging on your every word, only complaint we dont get enough of them, 4-6 Chapters a day should keep me happy Hee hee. PPS

    14. Wow, anker… you flatter me TOO much! And hey, if my sulking and pouting means I can move in with Bette and Tina, I am ALL for it! What else do I have to do to get in on that deal?! LOL And are you sure my name’s not NY? Because even I’m starting to wonder now… LOL Ok, story time… Aw… I always loved that concept of another person being ‘home.’ Guess I’m still a little homeless. ;) I can only imagine how terrifying becoming a parent would be, besides being amazing. And I love to see such a supportive Bette, reassuring Tina at every turn… *melt* I’m just glad they keep talking… anker, thank you thank you thank you… still amazing!

    15. You are killing me! How could I not love this chappy? You should know I love everything you write Anker! I think you know I like Me some Alpha Bette! And I do get it!!!Shithead!lmao I can’t wait for you to bring it on..I was so flippen tired when I wrote the last comment…You crack me up! You do really rock though! I’m blowing you a kiss!

    16. Great chapter Anker! Love this story! Glad that they have been able to talk about the ‘baby issues’ .. and B&T’s interaction was quite fun! :) PPS

    17. Anker, You really showed what being in an adult relationship is all aboyt here. Both Bette adn Tina were able to comfort and support each other in the time of need. Both were able to reveal their inner most thoughts and fears in a safe and honest environment. After everything that the gals have been through it is awesome to having sahrinf like this. The subject of a child has been a testing time for Tina but thankfully Bette was there to reassure her and show that she was ready to be the birth mother if required. Then Tina focussed on her absence during Melvin’s illness and death. This was a difficul time but one that is in the past and dealt with in Bette’s mind. Moving on can be tough but these gals are ready and there to nurture each other through. Let the search for a daddy commence. It is gonna be a ride. Many thansk for your wonderful writing. Your Loyal Fan.
