Neither heard the lock being unlocked, or the door opening.

The kiss ended suddenly when the exclamation of “oh my God!” filled the living room.

Tina felt a wave of emotion, from startled to embarrassed to aroused, crash around her. She looked up and saw Alice, hand covering open mouth, and Tasha standing in her living room.

Alice removed the hand. “Uh, hi, TK.” She tried to make it sound nonchalant, as if she hadn’t just barged in on Tina and another woman kissing and then let out a yell.

“Alice, please keep your voice down. I just got to bed – just got Angelica to bed.” The misstatement was just one probable cause of the blush that was rising on Tina’s face.

“We’re sorry.” Tasha’s voice and demeanor were much calmer than her girlfriends’. “I thought we should knock.”

“And you should have,” Tina agreed.

Watching the interplay, Karen got up off the couch. “I’ve got a few things to do, still, tonight. If you’ll excuse me.”

Following her guest to the door, Tina frowned when the woman just walked out, not looking back.

“So, I guess she’s not an ax murderer.” Unaffected by the evil eye being shot her way, Alice took a seat and started leafing through the same stack of magazines that Karen had browsed earlier. “In fact, she was kind of cute.”

Tina rolled her eyes. “Thanks, Al.”

“You didn’t answer when we called.” Tasha sat next to Alice. “We were genuinely concerned.”

“I even brought my muscle.” Alice threw her arm around Tasha and smiled. Tasha’s reaction was more of acceptance of her girlfriend’s actions than amusement.

“You must have called while I was putting Angelica to bed.”

“It’s nice to see you’re at least making friends, TK.”

“I thought I was, Alice. But now.” Tina listened in the direction of Angelica’s room. Nothing. “Can you guys stay here for a few minutes?”

    They each shrugged.

“Great.” Tina flashed a smile. “I’ll be right back.” With that she headed from the apartment.

As she was leaving, she heard Alice, speaking softly. “You go, girl.”

Tina gave a light knock on her neighbor’s door.

    1. I don’t know how I missed the first chapter, but I’m all caught up now. Alice makes for an excellent comic foil in such circumstances. Looking forward to it probably continuing!

    2. Alice is dependable in a lot of ways, some less predictable than others. It’s both a blessing and a curse, I suppose, but she’s no less loveable for it. This was great, and “probably” is much firmer than a “?”, so I’m running with it: Can’t wait for the next post, pseud. Thanks

    3. That’s nice Alice was concerned enough to haul ass over to Tina’s when she didn’t answer the phone. But I wonder if that’s sufficient to keep someone who feels entitled to intrude and then break confidences so gleaned around as a friend.
