    Chapter13.

Turning it on usually helps it to work.

I jumped, glancing behind me just in time to see my boss skulk away to harass another employee.

*****, I thought clicking on the infernal machine. I had been in my own world even more than usual that week. No surprise as to why.

I had been speaking to Millie everyday since Sunday through telephone calls which always ended up lasting a couple of hours long, at the very least. We seemed to have the same level of curiosity about one another, and even though it would be my task to find out certain details about her, we usually ended up getting badly side tracked and laughing for the rest of the phone call. I had never enjoyed getting to know someone as much as I was with Millie. But on one hand I wanted to be able to know this woman inside out, and on the other hand I already knew her; it didn’t feel like we had met for the first time only a couple of weeks ago. We tended to act as though we had known each other our whole lives. Which was great because I felt so comfortable around her. I thought she would intimidate me or there would be a feeling of unease every time I saw her. But there wasn’t, it was quite the opposite actually.

I was itching to see her again, but we were so busy. If she wasn’t meeting with a buyer or attending a signing at a gallery, I was always working. It was frustrating because I knew she wasn’t going to be in London for long. She had to go home soon and as much as I didn’t want to think about anything like that, I couldn’t help entertaining the thought in my head. The pestering thing was, was that I didn’t even have a vague time scale of how long she was staying. If she was stopping in a hotel in London then it couldn’t be for too long, not that I knew how much Millie was worth but she certainly wasn’t a millionaire.

Just as the thought of Millie going out of my life entered my mind everything went down a notch. Instead of staring at something with a smile on my lips, I would scowl at it and bite the head off anyone who even dared to intrude in my thoughts.
