    Chapter XXII

Over a secure video conference connection that was linked from an agency conference room to Bette’s office, Mike resumed his rundown of various facts and leads that he and members of his team had developed, following separate trips each had taken to LA.  They’d each gone to LA primarily to see if any loose threads had been left hanging inadvertently in the case Bette had helped them with several years ago.  They’d all volunteered to help out with the follow-up largely because Mike and his team had felt they owed Bette and Tina for the help Bette had given them in advancing their investigation and research in Afghanistan, more recently, as well as in the case that concerned a cache of stolen art that had Bette had brought to them several years previous to that.

In the more recent case, Mike and most of his team had been injured during an attack on their group while they were conducting investigation into a smuggling ring that was funneling ancient artifacts out of caves in Afghanistan. While recuperating in the field hospital, they had despaired that their work would be significantly derailed, and they’d be forced to stay in the dangerous area for longer than they’d planned or wanted.

Bette and Tina had been in Dubai, relaxing in the airport lounge while waiting for a connecting flight, enroute to a business meeting Bette was going to take in India, before the couple would finally go on to the first leg of their honeymoon.  While relaxing in a spa pool in the lounge, Katy, Mike’s wife had called Bette urgently through her satellite phone to ask for the brunette’s help.  Bette, with Tina’s support, had quickly rerouted the honeymoon trip the couple was about to go on to continue the research the team had started.

As a result of work Bette and others had done, Mike and his team were able to wrap up their work well ahead of their original schedule.  This eventually enabled the team to shorten the time it would have had to spend in a battle space environment full of danger. Mike’s team was mindful that Bette and Tina had agreed to fly to such a place to help despite the difficulties Mike and the team had inadvertently inflicted on the couple early in Bette and Tina’s relationship, following an ill-timed decision of Mike and the team to pull Bette away from Tina when the couple had gone on their first trip to Paris together (“Let It Happen” chapter vi).

    1. I’m so glad you are back. Thank you for the excellent update. What a tangled web Bette does weave! There are so many twists and turns to even venture a guess who presents the most danger to Bette and Tina. Is it Eric seeking revenge against Tina? Is it that Lauren person? Her family has a huge art collection to archive. Not Kelly or Jodie, please. So many questions to be answered. Please continue to post.

    2. Omg, this is a amazing story.

I am not sure i ever commented, but this story has everything, Love, danger, intrigues

I wonder who is after Bette and Tina. Maybe a (supposed) close friend of them.

Thank you for sharing your story with us.

    3. Hi there, Thanks for checking in! Hope you’re all well (and warm. This snow season is hanging around too long, don’t you think?)

Am trying to figure out how to add a music file — the last scene in this chapter can be way cooler (or hotter!) with the song I wrote the scene for/to. I don’t think what I tried, in trying to hotlink the music, was working. Have figured out the last few chapters for the book … and they rock! (according to random people I asked to preview outlines for them). Just trying to find the time to write them all out. But let me know what you think as they roll out :-)

    4. Oh, the plot definitely grows thicker! Spencer’s the obvious choice of bad guy… too bad that they didn’t let his surname slip, else Tina may have been able to help. That omission may prove costly…

Glad you’re back, post soon! Cheers :)

    5. Please just let me express my enjoyment of your writing skills and your creativity. I have been a silent reader probably longer
then you have been alive. I am one of the “old school” generation much experience with dial phones stamp and letter for mail and a dictionary for spelling check. But, due to my desire to continue to read your talent I have traversed the electronic midfield to stay with the new site. Though the idea was very intimidating to me, all for the sake of reading your entertaining stories. Please continue to do so and I promise to move forward with this electronic wizardry Thank you for your creations
