Chapter 8 – The Saga Continues

Bette hesitated. She had been standing there for quite sometime already. She clinched her first and built up the courage to knock on the door. She tapped it softly. No answer. She tapped it slightly harder this time, still no answer. She tapped harder. She sighed loudly and as she was about to turn around and leave, she heard locks unlatching on the other side. Bette stood froze as the door opened. A smile fell upon her face. Hey, were you sleeping? I II mean if m disturbing you, Im just going to leave Bette stuttered. Tina looked sleepy. She rubbed her eyes and yawn. What are you doing here? Her voice sounded cold. Bette swallowed hard. Look, if you want me to leave, I will just Tina looked at her. She sighed. Is it important? she asked. Bette nodded, tears began to collect in her eyes. Can I just talk to you? Tina opened the door wider and motioned Bette to come in.

    BETTE
Only GOD knows how Im feeling right now. Im ecstatic that Im actually here with Tina but at the same time, Im nervous as *****! I thought she wouldnt even want to see me. She looks as great as usual even though shed put on a little weight but it made her look more, voluptuous. What am I doing? Focus Bette! You have a mission today. And your mission is sort things out with her and persuade her to forgive poor ol pathetic you. Ok, maybe more of the pathetic you. This place. This place is injustice to Tina! She deserved better. And whos to blame? Me of course! The place is not what Ive expected it to be. Knowing Tina, it ought to be simple and, well, very Tina! And from what Im seeing now, its definitely not Tina. Not Tina at all. The living room is dull, no artwork in sight. All I can see is a lonely small vase sitting on the coffee table. The walls are empty. It really saddens me to see Tina living in a place like this. Id wished she had let me find her a nice place to live in. But one thing about this place that is truly Tina is that its neat and tidy. Thats Tina. Always having everything in place. Thats one of the great qualities that make me love this woman. Have a seat, she said, pointing to the couch in front of me. I did as told, feeling nervous. She disappeared into the bedroom and came out a few minutes later. She had changed into something more comfortable. You want anything to drink? she asked as she opens the fridge. I shook my head. She shrugged and walked back to the living room. She sat on a chair, a few feet away from me. I was trying not to show how upset I am with the way shes treating me right now, cold. She looked at me and asked, What do you want to talk about? her voice sounding impatient. I took a deep breath and looked her in the eye. Ive got your letter, I mean your lawyers letter. I was literally choking but I tried to stay calm. Thinking about the letter makes me angry. And Im going to tell you that I dont agree to it. She looked at me in disbelief. I can tell that shes pissed. You dont get it do you? she hissed. It scares me to see Tina like this. This is what I want, she said. Oh really? Are you sure this is what you want? Tina, I know Ive hurt you deeply. I know Ive disappoint you. I really hate myself for doing this to you. I know no matter what I do, you wont forgive me but this is not fair to me. I want you Tina. I want you back. I love you so much and I cant let you go. Forgive me for being selfish but I just cant. I believe you still love me Tina. Why are you doing this? Cant we work it out? Im willing to do anything just for us to be together again. This time, my cheeks were soaking with tears, sorrowful, pathetic tears. I want to go on but I was choking on my words. I cant breathe. Breathe Bette, breathe. I wished the floor would open up and swallow me whole but no, I must get through this. I looked at Tina. She was looking out at the window. Then she turned to look at me.

    TINA
Why is she doing this to me? Why cant she just let me go? It pains me to see her like this. She looks so thin. Shes crying in front of me and I cant do anything. I want to just go up to her and put my arms around her but I cant. I just cant. I cant let myself be weak. Part of me just wants to forget the whole thing and be normal. But I still cant get over her ***** another woman! I wished I could tell her that I still love her. But I cant. I just cant. Do you realize how many times Ive heard that? You kept saying how sorry you are and how youd do anything for us to be together again. But are you? Are you willing to do anything? As far as Im concern, the Bette that I truly know, would never break her promises. The Bette that Id used to know promised to love me and only me for the rest of her life and I do! I do love you and always will! Ive told you I dont love her! she interrupted me. Tears were really falling down her eyes. Im trying as hard as I could not to cry but I guess I wasnt doing a good job. I can feel the liquid slowly flowing on my face.

Bette cried uncontrollably. She wiped her tears with her palms. What can I do to make you believe me that I really love you Tina? she got up from the couch and kneeled in front of Tina. Look T, Im begging you. Dont leave me. I need you. I feel so empty without you. Do you know how hard it is to wake up every morning and not seeing you by my side? Tina looked down at the woman who she had loved and always will. Then suddenly, she had the urge to vomit. She quickly got up from the chair and ran to the bathroom. Bette was stunned at Tinas sudden behavior. She stood up and walked towards the bathroom. T, are you ok? she pressed her ears against the door and she could hear Tina vomiting. She was worried. She tried to open the door but it was locked from the inside. The sound of Tinas constant vomiting kept on for a while. After a few minutes, Tina finally appeared out of the bathroom. Bette quickly rushed to her. Are you ok? You make me so worried. Tina looked at her. Bette looked at her, frowning. Somethings not right, thought Bette. Her intuition tells her to feel Tinas stomach. She placed her hand on her stomach and she was shocked. Oh my God! Youre pregnant!! Tina pulled herself away and walked to the living room. Bette followed behind. Tina was looking out of the window. She was watching two children playing in the playground downstairs. She felt someone grabbing her hand. But she didnt turn around to see who was grabbing her. She already knew. Are you ever going to tell me Tina?! asked Bette, with full of sadness in her voice. Tina kept silent. She closes her eyes. Slowly, she turned around and opened them. She saw a face which she knew so well. A face which she was so accustomed of seeing everyday. She wanted to touch the face of the person in front of her but she couldnt. Tears began to swell up in her eyes.

    TINA
Im sorry. I wanted to tell you but How long has it been? asked Bette in between tears. I felt like telling her that I found out I was pregnant 2 days after the incident but that will make her feel more guilty. Itd been a month. I lied. I was lying through my teeth. Oh, was all Bette said. She sat on the floor. She looked weak. She looked like she was going to faint. Bette, you ok? she shook her head and mumbled to herself. She kept shaking her head and mumbling something like, Im sorry. Im sorry Ive never seen Bette behaving like this before. I tried to make her stand up but she was unstable. Come on Bette, dont be like this. But she wasnt listening. Instead, she kept on mumbling to herself. This time ever in my life, I finally realized, Bette has finally lost it.
