Chapter 5 – The Dinner with the Gang

    Angie:  Great, can Jordi go?

Bette:  Not this time sweetie.  This is our first trip as a family in a long time, so we want time with you alone.  Maybe we will go again later in the spring, and we will take her.

Angie:  Okay… this is not going to be like tent camping, is it?

Tina:  No, this is a cabin with bathrooms, running hot water and beds.  Its rustic, but it will have all the comforts of home.

Bette:  You might want to pick out a couple of movies you want to see with Mama T and me.  Of course, after the hikes, you might want to go to bed early so you can get up to see the sunrise as well.  We will be there Friday and Saturday night. We should be back home by 3 or 3:30 Sunday. And pack, jeans, boots, sweatshirts and jogging suits. Bring a swimsuit unless you’re okay with being nude in front of your moms. We plan to get into the hot tub at least one night if not two.

Angie:  Are you two bringing suits?

Tina:  Yes, dear we are. And a robe and slippers. And some pajamas.  It gets cool at night. You know this is February. And bring a heavy jacket and some gloves. You may have to bring firewood in.

Angie:  A real fire in a fireplace.  Cool….

Angie:  Sounds great.  I’m going to bed now.  So, goodnight.

She went and hugged and kiss both of her moms and went upstairs.

Tina:  How do you think her night went?

Bette:  No comment means it was fine.  No problems or squabbles with the parents or Jordi. She wasn’t hungry so she had enough to eat and drink. She still looked nice so there was no make-out session in the back seat.

Tina laughed:  Glad you weren’t my mom.

Bette:  Just doing my job Tina… just my job.

Tina:  Well, I’ll get a full interview at breakfast.

Bette: Yeah, you do that!  Five dollars says that everything I said is right.

    Tina:  You’re on!!!

Bette:  Tina, I am glad you are here.  But I am going to have to retire for the evening because I will need to be out of here by 6:30. Give me a call about mid-morning and give me an update.  Or call me if you need anything.  There is food in the fridge if you want to cook – pork chops, rice, apparatus, and some carrots.  There is plenty of ice cream for dessert. I’ll get all my meals out, so don’t cook for me.  Oh, and here is $10 for Angie to get lunch at school.  There is salad fixings and some other stuff for your lunch. Just help yourself.

    1. Hey Martha,

I’m very happy with the quick updates! And you post them right after my work, coincidence?

Tina has seen the light thanks to Angie and her response about Tina’s and Carrie’s engagement.

I’m happy that Tina takes responsibility for her actions and will look for a therapist to really work through her issues and as result will be happy with herself again, with or without Bette and a possible relationship.

Very wise of Bette to not give in or give Tina a definitely answer about her question if she wants to be in a committed relationship again. Tina has to show due to her actions she can be trusted and show that she really wants to be with Bette and not run away when they hit a rough pad.

Tina does the right thing to break it of with Carrie regardless of she will have a relationship again with Bette.

It was a good conversation between Bette and Tina, let’s see if they can work it out.

But first a family weekend in Big Bear, a moment to connect as a family again.

    2. Bibi,

Thanks for the comment. Tina has done some thinking, and she is at least saying the right things. Now let’s see if her actions reflect her words. Yes, a family weekend at Big Bear Mountain.

Personally, I like that Bette is being an observant mom to Angie. That is one of the little things that I wanted to show in Bette. She knows her role as mom, and she see things which non-moms don’t see. A subtle reminder that Tina has not been around, and Bette has.

As to my posting schedule? I am on east coast of US. I presume you are in Europe somewhere. I have no idea what your schedule is, and my schedule is so sporadic that all of this is really coincidence.

I do appreciate you posting a response…. makes my day and my week and even my month.

    3. It seems Tina is seeing the light and the errors of her ways ….. and starting to do something about it !!
It will be a long road! Bette needs to be sure, I don’t think Tina realised until now the devastation she caused Bette and Angie. Slow and steady, with full and openness to both is what Tina must concentrate on now. She will get there, she is so determined but it will take time. Therapy seems a good way to start so she can reevaluate her actions and the consequences. I do fell sorry for Carrie, she’s done nothing wrong but fall 8n love with a woman who’s still in love with her ex! That’s life but she doesn’t deserve the heartache that’s coming her way. Going to read on now !

    4. Thankyou Janice

Sometimes, people are just blind to the effect they have on others. And of course, when people never deal with each other, there is no way to see what is going on with them.

Carrie too is a victim in this story. But you are right, people do not always get what they deserve, and life is often not fair. However, Tina would be doing Carrie wrong to continue her relationship with her knowing that Bette is whom she loves. Carrie deserves someone who loves her as much as she loves them and that will never be Tina.
