Chapter 5 – The Dinner with the Gang

Bette:  Well, I’ll be glad just to get this campaign behind me.  Thanks, Shane, for dinner.  We will see you all Tuesday night.

They all hugged and said good night and went to their vehicles.  Tina and Bette then headed for home.

Bette:  I’ve made the reservations for the weekend at the cabin. It will be stocked with food and beverages.  All of our activities – hiking, hot tub, cooking will take place on the grounds with no transportation required. So, pack a swimsuit unless nudity doesn’t bother you. No need for dressy clothes – jeans, cargo pants and jogging outfits will be fine. It gets cool at night so we will make use of the fireplace. It will have all the comforts of home without all the formality of home.

Tina:  Sounds wonderful.  Are we going to tell Angie?

Bette:  Yes, we need to tell her tonight so that she can clear her weekend calendar.

Tina:  I have scheduled a flight out for Wednesday morning at 11:30. I will need to leave the house at 8:30.  I’ll call a cab.  You will probably want to sleep in after Tuesday night. I will be back in LA about 6:30 am on Friday morning.  I’ll get a cab for that too.  I’m only going to pack a few clothes, and I may bring back more clothes.  My hiatus officially started on Tuesday.  We have our end of season gala in three weeks. But that is the only thing I have on my agenda for the next few weeks.

Bette:  May I ask why are you going back to New York?

Tina:  I have made the decision that I need to terminate my relationship with Carrie, and I owe it to her to do it in person.

Bette:  May I ask why you are terminating your relationship with Carrie?

Tina:  Carrie is a lovely person. She really cares for me, and I care a great deal for her.  But I am not the person she needs to be married to.  I cannot give her my heart wholly and unconditionally because my heart belongs to another. And even though I have no idea whether or not I can make our (yours and mine) relationship work, I cannot string Carrie along to wait for scrapes of what might be left of my heart once this relationship has run its course. And even if this does not work out between you and I, I still owe it to Angie to give her all the time and attention that I can give her for the time she has left before she goes to college.  That means, there will be very little if any time for Carrie.  And she was under the impression that there would be more time together once we were married.  We do not spend a lot of time together as it is. It’s a very hot and heavy long-distance dating.  Realistically we are not ready for a committed relationship much less marriage. Oh, we are faithful to each other. Our time together has been great, but it hasn’t reached that stage of bonding where we simply cannot live without each other. I’m not certain we ever will reach that stage of bonding at least not with the amount of time we are spending together currently with each other. She knows that I still love you. It is not fair to marry her when I cannot commit to her my entire heart, body and soul.  So, to lessen the pain, I owe it to her to break it off now before she gets anymore vested into the relationship than she already is. I know it’s going to break her heart. But I also know it’s the right thing to do.

    1. Hey Martha,

I’m very happy with the quick updates! And you post them right after my work, coincidence?

Tina has seen the light thanks to Angie and her response about Tina’s and Carrie’s engagement.

I’m happy that Tina takes responsibility for her actions and will look for a therapist to really work through her issues and as result will be happy with herself again, with or without Bette and a possible relationship.

Very wise of Bette to not give in or give Tina a definitely answer about her question if she wants to be in a committed relationship again. Tina has to show due to her actions she can be trusted and show that she really wants to be with Bette and not run away when they hit a rough pad.

Tina does the right thing to break it of with Carrie regardless of she will have a relationship again with Bette.

It was a good conversation between Bette and Tina, let’s see if they can work it out.

But first a family weekend in Big Bear, a moment to connect as a family again.

    2. Bibi,

Thanks for the comment. Tina has done some thinking, and she is at least saying the right things. Now let’s see if her actions reflect her words. Yes, a family weekend at Big Bear Mountain.

Personally, I like that Bette is being an observant mom to Angie. That is one of the little things that I wanted to show in Bette. She knows her role as mom, and she see things which non-moms don’t see. A subtle reminder that Tina has not been around, and Bette has.

As to my posting schedule? I am on east coast of US. I presume you are in Europe somewhere. I have no idea what your schedule is, and my schedule is so sporadic that all of this is really coincidence.

I do appreciate you posting a response…. makes my day and my week and even my month.

    3. It seems Tina is seeing the light and the errors of her ways ….. and starting to do something about it !!
It will be a long road! Bette needs to be sure, I don’t think Tina realised until now the devastation she caused Bette and Angie. Slow and steady, with full and openness to both is what Tina must concentrate on now. She will get there, she is so determined but it will take time. Therapy seems a good way to start so she can reevaluate her actions and the consequences. I do fell sorry for Carrie, she’s done nothing wrong but fall 8n love with a woman who’s still in love with her ex! That’s life but she doesn’t deserve the heartache that’s coming her way. Going to read on now !

    4. Thankyou Janice

Sometimes, people are just blind to the effect they have on others. And of course, when people never deal with each other, there is no way to see what is going on with them.

Carrie too is a victim in this story. But you are right, people do not always get what they deserve, and life is often not fair. However, Tina would be doing Carrie wrong to continue her relationship with her knowing that Bette is whom she loves. Carrie deserves someone who loves her as much as she loves them and that will never be Tina.
