Centre of my Universe, Part 15

‘Something came up ‘til my last call, Marina. So we have to postpone.’ Jenny told her.

“Oh.” Marina wasn’t sure what to say. “I called your house, Jenny.”

‘Yes, I heard about that. Marina, I told you I would call, so please refrain from disturbing my roommate in the future, okay ? We will meet, but it’s on my timeframe and if you can’t accept that, you better cease your efforts.’ Jenny was all grown-up now. She wouldn’t let Marina playing games with her anymore.

“I’m sorry, Jenny. It won’t happen again.”

‘Okay, as I said something came up. We can meet this evening. I’ll call you for the time in about two hours. And now I have to go. ‘til later, Marina. Bye.’

“Okay, bye, Jenny.” She wasn’t too sure if Jenny had heard her and closed her phone.

While talking to Jenny, Kit had brought Marina’s water and sandwich. She couldn’t help to overhear some words and again was wondering what Marina’s game was. So she went to her office and called Shane.

At Bette’s house, Alice and Shane had overcome their staring match and were discussing remodeling the house to afford each of them the same amount of space. That was the moment Jenny came back to the patio and Shane’s phone rang.

“Jesus, what’s wrong today ?” Shane grumbled.

“It just proves you’re paying your phone bill.” Alice laughed.

Shane connected the call. “Heya, Kit, what’s wrong ? … Really ?… Well, I’ll be damned. … No, I don’t know. … Yes, she just came back in.”

Shane quickly looked at Jenny. “No, I don’t think so. … Okay. Yes, I’m going to pick him up. No, they’re not here right now.” She laughed. “I think so too. Glad you find that amusing. Great. Bye for now.”

As she closed the phone, Jenny asked. “Marina’s at the Planet ?”

    “Yes.”

    “Aha.”

Alice Pieszecki left out of a conversation… never. “Hey, guys, mind telling me what’s going on here ?”

“Al, are you mentally challenged or what. That was Kit on the phone, overhearing Marina talking to Jenny on her phone ! Duh…” Shane had it now.
