    Breathe- Chapter 13

Bette came into the room wondering if Tina had finished dressing. She had tried to provide her with several choices, but the simple fact was their body types and styles were vastly different.

What clothes to wear was the least of Bette’s concern when she had relayed some of the Captain’s demands and Tina responded, “Then I guess we should go where ever you need to take me as soon as possible.”

Tina extracted her self from Bette’s warm and protective arms. “Bette, I know you have been trying to protect me, but the sooner we get this over with the better,” she finished as she pushed herself off Bette’s lap.

Surprised at Tina’s strength now that she had rested, Bette realized she really knew very little about Tina Kennard. “There’s coffee if you’re interested,” Bette offered as Tina started walking towards the back door. “T, the kitchens that way,” Bette laughed as Tina made a course correction.

“Bette, this house is huge. I am going to need to drop bread crumbs just to find my way around,” she said exasperated.

Bette rose and crossed to Tina, pulling her against her in one swift move and looked deep into her eyes. “T, if you are ever lost, just know that I will find you.”

Tina felt her cheeks flush and she didn’t know how to respond to the intense feelings reflected in Bette’s eyes. Instead, she asked, “Why do you live all by yourself in this huge house?”

Bette met her lips softly and then let her go to cross and stand in front of the picture window.

“It wasn’t really the house that drew me,” she said quietly. “It was the view. The openness, the light. Seattle can be really dark, especially in the winter. When I first moved here from L.A., I almost couldn’t breathe, the dark clouds were so oppressive.”

Tina remained silent as she knew Bette was being transported to a different place and different time in her life.

“I was in such a dark place, and the light and the water filled me at a time when little else did,” Bette’s voice trailed off as she realized she had said more than she intended.

    1. Damm lets just give everyone a public show. lol
Ok so I know the dog is not important, but where the hell is it at, I mean the killer pulls up in his boat and the dog doesn’t bark???
Oh that was a good twist for bette.

    2. Sox,
Thank you soo much for manufacturing this mesmerizing masterpiece. The murder, the mystery, the madman, the mistaken identity all mixed up into a magical, memorable and magnificent melodrama.
“The greatest gift you’ll ever know is just to love and be loved in return” sums up for me the Bette and Tina you have shaped. The openness and honesty they share is enthralling. The fact that they have connected during such tragedy is awe-inspiring. Like the Phoenix is reborn out the flames, their love is rebuilding their spirits stronger and more able to cope with life’s frailties and harsh realities.
You have written a fantastic and fabulous fan fiction, which illustrates how to write a gripping and imaginative story. Hopefully this will motivate other writers to match this and raise the bar even higher.
Thank you for share this gift with me.
      Your Loyal Fan.

    3. It’s just so perfect and what can I say ? Thank you for write this story and leave us to read it. CROO is right, where was the dog when this guy was around ? It will be easy to think he’s the serial killer and in the same time, we can think the killer is searching for Tina. But he doesn’t know Tina is in Bette’s house (I think), even they have be seen together in this hospital, or he has some police’ connections. I can’t stop myself to try to find some clues. I love the way Bette tells what happened in her past and the way Tina listened.
      Another time thank you.

    4. Hmmm… the guy on the boat scares me… now bette has to pull herself together and solve this case…

one question…. the other 3 cases… were the girls raped… and then killed…

    5. I’m late to the party, but congrats on graduating from forum poster to fanfic author. I’ve just read all the chapters and you are doing a great job telling this story. Crime fiction is not my thing but, well, this is different. Keep up the good work!

    6. Wonderful chapter, as always with you – and more than ever !

Thank you again and again for such a daily reader’s joy. Great, great work !

    7. There are simply no words adequate enough to describe the depths of how much I am enjoying this story. The intrigue and suspense have my mind reeling. The pain and suffering that they both have endured has me in tears. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Superb.

And what’s with work getting in the way of fanfic, anyway? Yeah, yeah…funds need to be raised, but WE need you too! Alas, I guess we will just have to wait.

The guy in the boat, hmmmm….

    8. Sox – at first I didn’t want to see Bette collapse but by the end with these lines ‘“You don’t need to save me Bette, because you already have.”

A sob escaped Bette’s lips that Tina gently silenced with a soft, slow kiss that said more about where they were going than where they both had been. ” you totally reeled me back in. I can’t believe you juggle all you do and are still churning out this story which is mindblowing and beautiful and very very engrossing. Can hardly wait for the next chapter but get some sleep girl we want you healthy to keep this story going. ~bfan

    9. Oh My God……I am away for a month and look what I’ve missed……I am so glad I found this amongst the 900 odd chapters I have missed….I have had the luxury of being able to read all 13 chapters back to back. Awsome, amazing…..I am well and truly hooked. Thank you for sharing this with us……and post soon…..I’ve got withdrawl symptoms already!!!!!

    10. Samaratan? I don’t think so – or am I just being paranoid. It wouldn’t be difficult for a reporter to find out where Bette lives. Hope I’m wrong. Great story.

    11. am i the first??? i’m watching for your updates everyday….this is getting better and better now that the cat is out of the bag…now go and catch the killer porter!!!! please post again soon if you can…lol…

    13. Looks like they’ll be protecting and saving each other, from their past. I know that Bette is going to catch a lot of heat, at the station. But, I hope their connection can keep them focused and maintain their bond. If that guy is already outside their house, it’s scary. Can’t wait for more.

    14. OT – we’d love to go get a drink wiyh you. it would be an honor and a blast. congrates on the baptism. fun milestones. let me know when.

    16. It seems that Bette, the heroine of this film noir
[1.Film Noir is often innovative in narrative techniques…. is marked by two temporal movements: of “real” time and “remembered” time.
2.The figure of the hard-boiled detective is often taken to be one of the defining features of film noir,]

has a bête noire in her past.

      Hummmm….????

    17. oh. my. god. Unbelievable chapter. WOW. Going to the station is going to be rough. The rumour mill will have been working at peak rate with this one. Will the captain even allow Bette to be present at Tinas interview? I know she is the lead detective but she is soooo in trouble here. Is she even going to be on the case after tonight? I am enjoying this immensely.

    18. Unbelievable! Your story is so powerful I find myself guessing and looking for clues as to the next revalation. I certainly love our heroines and hold a bit of concern for them, but I will go no further than this and let sleeping dogs lie. Thank you, I look forward all day, every day to your next chapter and so I’ll be doing just that. Cheers…

    19. I hope the reporter takes as many weeks as he usually does contriving his next attempt on Tina so we can have that much more time alone with the couple. Thanks for another great chapter.

    20. Well, another breathtaking chapter. Well done. The honesty that B & T share is refreshing. The mystery is consuming. I am constantly wondering and waiting for the next installment. I have read each chapter multiple times. Simply, fantastic.

    21. I can’t tell you how addicted I am to this story! Your writing is simply amazing and keeps me on the edge of my seat waiting for a new post. Thank you for giving us a story so compelling and well written…I can’t wait for more. Please post soon!!!
