“Bette…”

            “Well don’t you want to open it?” Bette teases. Tina takes the box into her hands and takes the other hand to slowly open.

            “Bette it’s beautiful.” She takes the princess cut diamond engagement ring into her hands.

            “Not as beautiful as you.” Bette says softly. Tina kisses Bette once more.

            “Well put it on me.” Tina cheerily hands Bette the ring who slips the ring on to Tina’s left ring finger. “Oh babe it’s amazing.” As Tina admires her ring she feels Bette’s finger lifting her chin in order to meet her gaze.

            “You’re amazing and I’m so happy you said yes.” Bette whispers.

            “Bette… I do have one question?”

            “Hmmm?”

            “Why did you have this?  When did you get it?”

            “T that’s actually two questions…” she giggles a bit.

            “You know what I mean.”

            “I do… well I had been thinking about asking you since Angie was born.”

            “Really?”

            “Yes really. Well I was walking past this jewelry store after having lunch with Kit and it caught my eye. So I walked in and bought it.”

            “It was that easy? How did you know I’d say yes?”

            “It was that easy and I didn’t know but I thought hopefully eventually you would. I mean we are living together and raising a baby. I suppose I made an assumption.” She says with a wink.

            “I love you Bette Porter.”

            “And I love you…” Angie begins to stir beneath them. Bette takes the baby into her arms as Tina goes into the kitchen to grab a bottle of milk. She returns to the room and hands Bette the bottle.

            “Babe you should hop in the shower and get dressed I’ll get Angie fed and ready.”

            “You sure?”

            “Yes my first class isn’t til 11 and I don’t have meetings until later.” Tina walks over and kisses Bette’s forehead before heading into the shower.  “Oh babe take a closer look at the ring when you get a chance.” Bette says with a wink before turning her attention to their daughter.

            Tina walks into the bathroom and slips the ring off her finger taking its beauty in. she notices script on the band…

First, last, forever

The tears began to well in Tina’s eyes. She undresses and steps into the shower. Bette smiles down at their daughter who is happily suckling her bottle. Before they know it their day is in full swing.

            “Okay babe. I’ll see you tonight. I shouldn’t be too late.” Tina says before she kisses Bette quickly.

            “Call me later.”

            The day passes with relative ease as Bette and Tina both find themselves pulling up to the house. Bette pulls her car in and takes Angie out of her car seat.

            “Hey Beautiful.” She says as Tina makes her way toward her.

            “Hey You. I’m so happy to be home. Where are you coming from?”

            “Oh I just stopped by The Planet after picking up Angie.”

            “Did you eat?”

            “Without you? No, but Kit did give us a doggie bag. It’s still in the car.” Tina walks to the back door and takes out the bag. She slides her arm around Bette’s waist as they make their way into the house.

            “It’s good to be home.” Tina says softly.

The loved up couple eat a quiet dinner together enjoying the company…

Nothing lasts forever this we can be sure of…. The only question left to ask is does love conquer all?
