Bike Ride, Life Ride – Chapter 8

The nurse walked into the bathroom and emerged with a wet washcloth. She walked over to Bette and started to wipe off Bette’s face and then particularly Bette’s mouth.  She turned back to Tina and said “She looked flush, I thought she could use a wipe down of her face”.  Then the nurse winked at Tina.

Tina understood the nurse had witnessed the exchange with Jodie and was trying to clean Bette off for her. Tina still had a tight stomach and was mad and jealous, but when she walked closer to Bette and realized that she looked so upset and so fragile, she began to forget all of that. Bette stirred in her bed and fluttered her eyes a bit. She saw Tina hovering over her.

Bette said hoarsely “Tina? Am I dreaming?”

Tina said “No, you aren’t dreaming sweetheart. I am right here. I came back a few minutes ago and Jodie just left. How are you feeling my love? The nurse said that you were upset. Is everything ok? Are you in pain?”

Bette turned her head away from Tina’s direct line of sight and said “I am not in pain. The medicine did the trick. I think I just need to rest”. Bette did not want to make direct eye contact with Tina.  Tina could feel that Bette was stiffer now and knew that something was wrong.

Tina said “Bette. Baby, what happened? What did Jodie say to you? Bette I can tell that you are upset and it isn’t because you are sleepy or in pain. Bette you need to level with me when you are feeling something. If we are going to make a go of us again, we have to be willing to communicate when we normally would not. No retreating. No running away. You asked me to stay and I am here. What is wrong?”

Bette started to cry. The tears came and then the sobs. “Tina do you love me? Did I force you into this? Do you just feel sorry for me right now? Tina are you going to leave me for a man? Are you sure you are a lesbian?”

Bette was sobbing and her blood pressure machine started to beep loudly. A nurse came in and said “Bette are you ok? Are you in a lot of pain? Do you need a stronger medication?”

    Bette said “I am ok”.

The nurse said “Bette, you have to calm down, having your blood pressure soar is not helping you.”.

Tina walked over to the bed and picked up Bette’s hand. She squeezed it and started to circle with her fingers in her palm. With her other hand, she ran her hands through Bette’s wild curls and rubbed her forehead. She kissed Bette’s forehead and then her cheek and then her shoulder and then her arm and then brought her hand up to her lips and kissed it.

Tina said “Bette, I love you. I am not going anywhere. Things will be different for us this time. I am not leaving you for a man or a woman. I am not going anywhere. For once I am not running from you or myself. I love you so much. If I could take away your pain, I would do it. And if you weren’t in this hospital bed, I would have kept going further down your body with my kisses and showed you how much of  a lesbian I am!”

The nurse cleared her throat loudly and said “I think you have her blood pressure under control Tina, but um, yeah, uh, be careful with that. And uh, if you need me, I, will, uh, be at the nurses station”.

Tina and Bette both looked at each other and smiled. They both had forgotten that she was there.

    1. Well I am surprised that Jodie didn’t do more than she did but i knew something had to give, she played on Bette’s fears. I think you did an excellent job emphazing that yes Bette and Tina are together but that alone was not the only reason she broke up with Jodi. IC could have used your help writing that in 511.

    2. Tina does have legal P of A. I would excercise that right now. No more Jodie in the room alone with Bette, and if Tna so wanted to to keep her away from Bette altogther. Let Bette get well and them thing will change. I dont believe that Jodie loves Bette she doesn’t like to lose. thanks

    3. I think I have already established the fact that I don’t like Jodi and I do not like Jodi and Bette together. I am a TiBette fan all the way. Jodi plays on Bette’s fears and the fact that although she is very alpha in the workplace, she is a big softie at home and she is unsure of emotional ties and the benefits of a relationship. She is always second guessing her feelings for Tina and Jodi and Tina’s for her because she had left before. Bette has never recognized the fact that Tina loves her dearly and she did some of the things she did because she loved Bette so deeply and did not want Bette to know that so she pretended that she no longer cared which could not have been further from the truth. Bette does not always see what is right in front of her. I felt so sorry for the nurse having to witness the affirmation of their love and care for each other. Poor thing, they forgot she was there, as they always do when they are with each other, they simply forget other people exist or are nearby. I loved her statement to Tina that she thought she had taken care of geetting her blood pressure under control. Please let Jodi get lost permanently, she is not good for Bette at all. Loved the chapter. Post when you can.

    4. well jodie knew what buttons to push… now tina has to push back… block jodie from the hospital… that will piss her off even more… and not even let her call or leave messages at the nurses station… great chapter… keep it coming… PPS

    5. Great chapter, I knew Jodi would be a b***h and try to confuse Bette. I know she put her heart into this relationship and that was a first for her, but deep down she has to know eventually she would have hurt Bette manogamy is just not her thing. She is just upset that it happened to her first. PS
