On Saturday morning Bette and Peggy joined the rest of their house guests for a breakfast buffet that Douglas had prepared so everyone could eat at their leisure then excused themselves to have a private talk.

They were still behind closed doors in Peggy’s study when Val and Leigh arrived with the decorations for the baby shower. Kit, Dylan and Winnie all pitched in while Francesca supervised. Being that both Val and Leigh were artist and because it suited Bette and Francesca’s taste so well they decided on ”Artsy Fartsy” for the theme. The decorations were sophisticated yet fun and creative. The overall effect was quite nice and in good taste. They set up work tables where the guests could customize baby gear. They purchased plain onesies, baby tees, blankets, and burp cloths that could be decorated using non-toxic washable fabric paint, glitter, and markers.

They also suggested a fun game called “Paper Plate Baby”. In this game each guest placed a plain white paper plate on top of his or her head then they are given a crayon and instructed to draw a baby on the paper plate without moving it from the top of their heads. When everyone is finished they pass the plates around the room and pick a winner based on the most votes. The winning artist would have the work professionally framed as a keepsake memento for Bette. Bette loved this idea and offered to display the winning masterpiece in her art gallery.

Carmen the DJ and her girlfriend Shane arrived at around noon to set up the DJ booth. Bette and Carmen had already discussed the music choices so they would have an eclectic mix to suit everyone’s taste and capture the mood. Alice and Dana got there soon after to set up for the games. This wasn’t a ‘baby shower’ in the traditional sense although they would play Alice’s silly games of “smell the poopy diaper” and “bowling for bottles”. It was more of a celebration of life and good times spent with friends and family. Once Carmen and Shane had the music going and the decorations were up the pre-party celebration commenced at the pool with pitchers of mimosas being served by the very attentive staff. By now Bette and Peggy had joined several others who changed into bathing suits to enjoy a swim in the pool before they got dressed for the late afternoon festivities.
